Algor USB and A2000 problem
« on: October 08, 2006, 10:19:41 AM »
Hello.

I just got an Algor zorro 2 USB board, along with a Norway ethernet addon, that was working fine in an A4000.

The problem is my A2000 won't boot most of the time if the board is plugged. When it boots, the board appears as "working" in the early startup and "FlashROM" is on the WB desk.

My A2000 is rev 6.2, ROM 3.1, 0S 3.9 and is filled with Blizzard 2040, GVP Spectrum RTG board and Macrosystem VLab (other boards are not plugged for now, as it is in rebuilding phase).

I read somewhere that the FlashROM is the problem and would have to be disconnected somehow.

Any idea?
Anyone with the same setup?

Thanks.

The AlGore is clearly the problem - it overheats by imagining things are getting warmer, when they really aren't.

It also suffers from delusions of grandeur, and will periodically claim that it invented the internet.

Sorry, couldn't resist....

Michael Böhmer would appreciate if you could send him the serial number of your Algor board. It looks like the board is in "original delivery state", means that it has never been reflashed or updated.

You could try updating the bootloader by downloading the latest version of Luciferin from my website.

@Platon42

My board is marked by hand as n° 276. I'm going to mail  Michael Böhmer about that.
You mean reflashing the flash rom could solve the problem, without hardware modification?

However, i guess that in order to flash it i need to succeed first to boot with it.
If you can explain me how to flash it, i will try it as soon as i get enough time (hopefully by the end of this month).
thanks :-)

Uh, I did.  On everything from snopes, to the CNN website.

The transcript is pretty clear:

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the internet".

Pretty hard to spin that one away as being taken out of context....

If nothing else, it made a pretty good gag out of an otherwise dry thread...

I thought you said you can eventually boot the Algor up to the workbench? If that's the case you simply would use the Luciferin software downloaded and installed from my website to reflash the bootloader.

If, however, you have problems booting, pressing and holding the *middle* mouse button right after powering the machine will skip the contents of the flashrom. This should also work with the left mouse button, if the Algor is NOT one of the first batches, because the first batch had the LMB and LMBMMB bootloaders confused (sorry).

About details on flashing, Luciferin comes with a rather complete manual ;)

PS: "I have too much computers!!" <- that should be "too many" as you can count them (vs "too much water", as water cannot be counted).

yes, which he did by funding bills to build the infrastructure we use today. What you implied by the comment was that he said he made the internet. So it is a false implication. The guy is on the side of tech. His wife on the other hand...

If she was President, I'd have to wear a sticker whenever I visit the US to advise I contain harsh language and sexual themes.

But making a claim like his, is sort of like some State rep saying "I saved a thousand women from being raped" because he voted for a CCW bill.....

I revive this old thread to seek more help.

I had finally the time to set up the algor board.

With the trick of booting with LMB pressed, i booted up OS3.9 and reflashed the Algor FlashRom with the latest Luciferin 1.7. I tried the standard.LMB and permanent.LMB, and leave the flash empty or only with some minor tag as noclick.

The fact is the computer can't boot normaly even after reflashing. I need to hard reboot numerous time pressin LMB or both LMB+RMB to bring the early startup menu, and i can get only one boot out of ten.

Once the A2000 is booted up, i can reset as much as i can without any trouble during booting procedure.

Strange!

The Algor itself is working well, as i tried a usb stick without trouble. The Norway addon is not working yet.

Any idea?
