I agree with the article completely.  What I'd love to see would be an A1-G3SE Lite style machine, with OS on ROM, and perhaps even A1200/500 style expansion (trapdoor?).  It could even have built in TV-out, for things that don't need the high resolution, and recording straight onto video etc.

OS on ROM isn't necessarily required, you could fit them with flash disks easily (and cheaply). CF cards can run in IDE mode, you know, and they are cheap in the sizes up to 256M, at least... Even better if Alan decided to purchase a rather large lot of them. Hmm, maybe I should make an IDE to CF adapter this week? I have plenty of CF cards on my desk :-)

Sure, why shouldn't you be able to? CF in IDE mode is just another IDE device, afaik... Ok, there's a few things it doesn't support, but nothing critical... I'll try it out if I get the chance :-)

I have reiterated much the same thing in a forum posting here.

First Company to release a G3 machine in an a1200 style case with 64MB RAM and TV out, with the OS on solid state, and a trapdoor for expansion and possibility to add a hard drive/more ram later at the magic price of £399.99 (A500 RRP for years) will have themselves a customer.  I don't care if it's Genesi or AInc/Eyetech that release it.  Come on, who's gonna be first? :-)

And if they bundle a Deluxe Paint type program and a couple of platform games with it, even better!

Using an A1 g3/g4 would be fine in theory, except for the fact that it is currently an unstable linux box. :-(

These guys always have a very positive outlook on Amiga, its nice to see.

I bought there weekly mag for the first time last week in years, great to see the Amiga was awarded the most popular computer of all time award, shafting the spectrum on its home turf.  :-)
Just think how wide the win margin would have been if the voting covered all of europe ;-)
They also have a weekly Amiga columm in the mag to, just 1 page but its still something.

anyways bit if topic there, good little article anyway.
