Im New Here... Help Me !
« on: October 06, 2006, 01:24:59 PM »
Hey Guys and Gals,

The Amiga days ended for me in 1997,   wenn I meet my
Wife ( know ex -- yahooo!! *LOL* ) Me and my daughter
now moved to Flensburg Germany ( We are danish )  and
unpacking my stuff I found my old Amiga 600 :) *Joy*

Me and my little girl (8) grabed it and played all the
good old games... mostly Great Giana Sisters  ;-)  And
now I want the good old Amiga Days Back ..... How come
that this brilliant thing lost over Windows ?  :-o

As the Amiga Days ended, I bought a PC .. Never got to
like Windows at all..... Even windows dont like itself
and as every one knows,  they are now copying Mac Os X,
with the "all new" Windows Vista *LOL*

For me it's Apple at the moment... But I miss  the Amiga
still.. I Want Amos Basic back, I want iff Back  and and
and and... *:)*  My daughter has a PC with Windows XP 06

01. Should I install Morph Os on my Daughters PC ?
Could she then run some Amiga progs or am I wrong ?

You can't install morphos on a PC (eg. x86). You must have a pegasos board or an amiga with a ppc accelerator.

02. What Equals Amos the most on a Apple Mac OS X ?

dunno

03. What Equals Amos the most on a PC Windows or MorphOS ?

ermm... maybe visual basic ? (really don't know)

04. Can you browse the net with an Amiga now a days ?

yes, but not a very delightful experience if you don't have a really juiced up Amiga.

05. Is there any chance that there ever will be a
new Amiga ?  Dont say no *Grrrrrrr*  *LOL*

Plenty of the old games

I highly recommend whdload for this (works both on a real amiga and emulation.) For emulation, see Amiga Forever and WinUAE.
I believe in mt. Fuji

For an AMOS equivalent for Mac, PC, Linux, AmigaOS 4(prereleases) and MorphOS you can look into sdlBasic or wait until the Mattathias BASIC compiler is done.  sdlBasic has a very flimsy experimental compiler called b2cpp that probably isn't worth your time if you want to do serious stuff.  Also the syntax is different on sdlBasic than AMOS while Mattathias BASIC is going to use AMOS syntax.  If you have an emulator you can use AMOS itself on any of the platforms supported by a UAE distibution (PC, Mac, Linux, MorphOS, AmigaOS 4(prerelease), etc.)

As for AmigaOS 4, it is promised to be full release by the end of this year IF there is supported hardware to run it on.  MorphOS will run lots of Amiga software but it isn't AmigaOS.  But as CountZero pointed out, neither of them will run on a PC but require a non-Mac, PowerPC-based computer.

The A600 is kind of the runt of the litter as opposed to other models like the A1200 of the same time period but you can use the ROM image out of it to get WinUAE to work on a PC to play all of your old games.  The A600 came with a Kickstart 2.x ROM but to run most of the internet software you'll need Kickstart 3.1 and I'd reccommend Workbench 3.1 with a 40 Meg hard drive since 3.5 or 3.9 would require a second hard drive for your data and a CD-ROM to install with.

-edit- Whoops, I misread the original post.  If you want to hook a 40 Gbyte hard drive to your A600 you'll need AmigaOS 3.5 or 3.9.  You won't be able to run AmigaOS 4.0 on your A600, though, so I'd consider either waiting for the official release of AmigaOS 4 or getting MorphOS to run on a Pegasos 2.

For 2 and 3, best bet is BlitzMax it's by the same author of BlitzBasic II on the Amiga.  It's cross platform, works on MacOS X, Windows and Linux.  The syntax is a bit different to BB II and you can do much more complicated stuff with it, but it's still easy enough that a former Amos user can pick it up.

A few feeble attempts have been made, but none of them comes close to even approaching the real Amiga.

Amiga 4000 MhZ <-- As much as possible
Amiga OS 5 <-- Or isnt that out ?
Ram <-- Minimum 256 MB
HDD <-- Minimum  40 GB
New White Keyboard... Danisch or English or German
New White Mouse...
Graphics and Sound ... Shall be good :)
CD and DVD burner incl. software... :)

Must be built a new Tower .. A nice one...

Ehr, you're a bit off with these specs. You are either building a kick ass Classic machine (looking at the 4000), or a poor next-gen machine.

I; myself prefer to love and cherish my classic setup's, the fastest CPU I have is a PowerPC 200Mhz (in my A4000T). I am not waiting for OS4, or even 5 to be released. I will most likely not buy any new hardware; unless it cooperates nicely with classics (maybe a Powervixxen; if there is ever one; or a Dragon). I will never consider buying an AmigaONE or Pegasus; there is nothing about those machines my PC can't do, let alone at that speed.

The Amiga experience for me is; and has always been the tinkering with Hardware, playing around etc.
I never want to; or expect it to be able to; burn DVD's, download large RAR files from newsgroups etc.

But on the other hand; you never know. I sold off all my Amiga's in 1997. Look where that got me; I now have every single model....

BTW: Welcome; you'll feel right at home here...  :-D
