Sidewinder, hows the OS 4.0 AMOS port going?

Sidewinder has put his parser changes on hold for a few weeks but I'm working on the string functions for the second alpha version of Mattathias.

The AMOS port is still being worked on, though at the moment mostly in my head.  As he already said, SamuriCrow is working on the string routines while I work on the parser.

I will update the AMOS Factory web site soon with an announcement about the current status of Mattathias and the mess that is my life, but here is a peek:

The Mattathias parser is being rewritten.  The original parser was becomming too large and wasn't giving the results I wanted so it was back to the drawing board.  The new parser will compile to C at first and eventually have different backends for different languages, OSes, and processors.

The bad news here is actually good news for me.  Tomorrow I get my commission as a US Air Force officer.  This isn't bad in itself, but I will be packing up my belongings and shipping them accross the USA to my new duty station while I attend a 3 month training session away from all of my stuff (including my computers).  The government isn't too keen on people installing things like WinUAE on its systems and  I own no laptop computer so I will just have to suffer for the time being.

The good news is that I'll be getting a steady paycheck now and so I'm planning to buy a laptop and install my Mattathias programming environment on it so I can code in my down time, but it may be a month or two before I can do that.  Until then the only real work on Mattathias will be done by SamuriCrow who has graciously offered to assist me in rewriting the string processing routines.

Well, that's the latest.  If you have any questions just ask.  I don't leave until next week, so there will be some coding going on until then.

I bought a laptop too after my move to the other side of the world. Never regret it for a sec. You can take it with you everywhere. So I can go to the beergarden and do my work there. :-)

Sidewinder, so you're a pilot then? What aircraft?

Alas, I am not a pilot at the moment.  Too many years of flickering hires interlaced Amiga screens have done in my eyes and currently the Air Force does not allow pilots to have the type of laser surgery that I need to fix my vision.  My other scores were high enough, but the eyes were the deciding factor.  8-)  But I have 6 more years until I am too old to apply for pilot training so I think I will keep trying to get the laser correction rule waived--otherwise I'll be forced to raise the millions of dollars to buy my own fighter jet. :-D

Until then I will be an aircraft maintainance officer.  My first assignment is working on training aircraft like the T-6 Texan and the T-38 Talon.  My dream job (aside from being a pilot) would be working with the F-16 Falcon or the new F-22 Raptor.  I figure that if you can't fly them, the next coolest thing is to fix them.  :-)

Do we have any other Air Force people (active/prior officer/enlisted) here at Amiga.org?

Ah okay, thanks for the reply. A lot of my friends are aircraft technicians. Not me though.. (and if you own a *gasp* PC there's always Falcon 4 for us unfortunate that has less than expected eyesight. )

Well...you can always start flying microlights :-D. Even a blind bat with the appriopriate spectacles is allowed to do that ;-).

Ahh Falcon 4.0...I love that sim!  Haven't had time to play it in about a year, but I hear that it's still being worked on.  I gotta get my self a new HOTAS setup anyway.  Nothing but ultimate realism.  It sure is a far cry from the original Falcon sim that I ran on my Amiga 1000, but I've had so much fun with both of those sims.  Man!  I already packed F4!  Now I have a serious urge to unpack everything so I can blow up some virtual bad guys.  Great stuff!

Thanks for the good wishes my friend.  I will seriously look into getting a laptop as soon as I get my first pay check.  Seriously I think I'd go into some type of shock if I didn't have an Amiga programming fix at least every few days.  :-)

Microlights eh?  I never really looked into it, but it does look fun.  Do you own one?  What are they like to fly?

I'm going to end this OT'ing with the words: SuperPak 4 is in Beta state so in a few weeks or months, Falcon 4 will shine even brighter on the virtual jetfighter sky... Better graphics, more realistic weaponsystems... *drool*

I wish I owned one...I'm just a broke student :-). No, my father owns an Avid Flyer Mk. IV. Unfortunately I don't have a licence to fly these things either, for now it's too expensive for me really to do the course. If you're interested I could give you my fathers email address.
