Greetings all:

I just traded some of my extra miscellaneous hardware for a Commodore 64.  I am needing some parts and actually have a few questions regarding the system as I never owned one when they were new :-)

First off, Need the video cable to hook it up to my 1084S monitor.  I figured out that it does not have a standard composite out ;-)  Also, with the trade obtained 3 1541 disk drives, one of which has something rattling around in it, so I will assume it is dead.  One is very new and requires a power pack of its own.  For the original drive (the one that actually looks to be in the best condition) I need the data cable for it, which looks like a DIN connector... I am not sure if that is a standard cable or wired specially, could use direction for that and if it is special, need that cable too.

I will in any case, need a new keyboard for the C64 because the old one has a broken key.  

If anyone can help and offer any advice on where to obtain these items, I am definitely looking.

Now, the unrelated question:  I have some .c64 images of disks and I want to change these back into real C64 floppies... aside from not being sure what kind of 5 1/4 diskettes to get and where to even get them... that is actually something I need to get advice on where to get them as well.

I can try to answer them the best I can.

Yes, you can put the images back to the real disks, and the kind of disks to get are DS,DD disks. No high density floppy disks will work on the 1541 drives.

You can purchase a XM1541 cable which you use to connect the 1541 drive to your PC, assuming you have a PC.  The amiga itself can write to the 1541 by wiring a simple cable to the parallel port, and i believe its called Easy1541 on aminet.

Those cablea and the part to the keyboard may be easy to get, but it depends.  Ebay is probably your best bet since you can probably score yourself a c64 with working keybaord, and also coming with all the cables you need. I think the hardest part is to get the drives themselves since shipping would cost a boatload for even just 1 1541 drive.

Also, i recommend you get a Fastload cartridge for your c64, if not, then loading times can be a pain in the arse.  :-)

I am going to try to build the cables for the 1541 and video, but I may still be interested in a real video cable at some time in the near future.

Do need to find a keyboard for my original (brown) C64 or maybe if someone has a dead one with a good keyboard?

I also absolutely LOVE my WarpSpeed cartridges.  You have to be careful, though, as the v1 cart does not support the 1581. Aside from the fast loader, it has a fast formatter and single or two drive copier, and it also has a machine language monitor, which is great for playing in ML.  Also, IIRC it works with my MSD drives!

If you try to make a XE1541 cable you probably want to try 64hdd. There you'll find the XE1541 schema.

The cables shouldn't be hard to find. I very likely have at least one spare serial cable (the disk drive cable). I'll check....

Fast loader cartridges prices on eBay are just plain stupid! You could buy a brand new Jiffy DOS setup for less, and it is faster, and better!
