what can i use my amiga for?
« on: September 30, 2006, 06:51:20 PM »
Hi guys,

I finally put everything into storage for my big move. Sold 1 of the CD32s, kept the other. Gave away two 1200s to a friend. Kept a processor board and some other bits and bobs i might one day use again. And kept the AmigaOne mini-itx, just incase.

Now im thinking of modding my CD32, to house the miniITX amigaone. But what will I do with it once its finished?

I have my PCs and I play games, mostly MMOs and do Flash and Graphics work on them.

I have no idea how far the Amiga has come in the last years since I stopped looking at the scene. Before I left there was so much excitement, AmigaOnes being made, Pegasos being made, OS4 being made. Lots of great things ahead. I have tried trolling the forums and googling like mad. I cant see anything new thats happened.

Please can someone tell me if anything has been developed to be used with an AmigaOne. Any new applications or games or hardware?

Thanks :D

p.s. can it emulate a mac or a windows pc well enough yet?

Well you can always give MacOnLinux a spin; as far as "emulation", I dunno.  There's an Amiga OS3.x build of Basilisk; depending on how well behaved it is it might work under 4.x...

As for the PC side...some folks have said PCTask works, so I dunno about that.

Gameswise, there's supposed to be a well working Playstation (1) emulator for OS4 so you've got the whole playstation library (just about) at your fingertips there if you want it.

There's no serious office app for OS4, nor are there any modern web-browsers, and that's a very serious problem.
Back away from the EU-SSR!

I think it`s fair to name Pagestream as the only real "killer-app`" on the `mig these days.

I guess You have never used SCALA MM300 or MM400 or InfoChannel 500

These are Still KILLER APPS!   They can still compete with PowerPoint and other such apps on other computers.

In many cases wayyy better!

I think SCALA and LightWave were the Most Significant Apps for the Amiga.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

To be honest: Scala/InfoChannel is the ONLY app that still can compete with ANY other presentation software today. Unbeatable value for money when used on an A1200 with A1230.
If only it would work with a modern LCD TV...

Karaté is also a nice one.
