Lets hear it for The Settlers!!! Hip Hip! ...
« on: May 17, 2003, 03:30:59 PM »
The other day I downloaded the WHD installer for The Settlers. I had it installed already but being a new installer I thought I'd try it out.

I haven't played the game for AGES so when I double clicked I sat back & watched the cute little intro (Cue the music).
Our friendly little knight rode down the lane, into the village where the children were playing, trotted past the bald bloke beating the metal thing ;-) Honked his horn, down came the drawbridge & into the castle he went...

Then.. There is was, clear as day right in front of me!

"The Settlers
Copyright Blue Byte 1993"

I felt a warm fuzzy feeling inside as the corner of my mouth curled upward forming a smile.

The Settlers are 10 years old.

This was the first game that stole hours of my life & I could do nothing to stop it except carry on playing.

Shame we didn't get the following games but still, lets hear it for Blue Byte & The Settlers.. :pint: :-)

Ahh yes...  The Settlers....  Let's hear it for the ENGLISH version!  :)  Way back when, I had downloaded it as "Die Seidler".  I could tell it was really cool... Most of the gameplay was icon-based, so I could get started, but man... What the heck is that picture of the dude picking his nose and a bunch of german text all about??  (You Lost some land due to this enemy building!)  Or when you click on a clock and nothing appears to happen, and then 15 minutes later it does the (You asked me to call you to this spot)  Haha!  It was soo cool..... but oh, the confusion!   :getmad:

Thank God for the English version!   :pint:  :pint: :rtfm:

I can't believe that its been 10 years that The Settlers first came out!! (It seems like yesterday to me!!)

So will any new version of the Settlers be available for Amiga?

I was just about to reboot into XP for a quick Civ3, but maybe I should go home and play Settlers on the A500 instead?

Yeah.... 2 players, 2 mice.  Great idea.  Great gameplay.  I've only ever seen that on Amiga games.  :-)  (In fact, the only two I can think of are Settlers and Lemmings!)

Can you even emulate a 2nd mouse on an emulator??

Bah, who cares??  Dust off a real Amiga and play it the way it was intended!  ;-)

The settlers is one of my all time fav games, and is defo my fav strategy game on the miggy.

The lovely summer days I wasted away as a lad, when I should have been outside enjoying the rare english sun, or revising for my a-levels.

10 years old and still a great game.  Damm it, im going to fix my miggy tomorow and play the game.

I would use winuae, but without my miggy, I cant make the adf's of the oringal disks.

The Settlers is certainly my all time favourite game. And the game I've played the most during the years.

I've played all the PC versions since but I think they lost a bit of character when they went from those really tiny people to more detailed versions. The ultimate game would be the look and feel of Settlers I with the added complexity of Settlers IV.  :-D
