No video output w/ sync strainer
« on: September 15, 2006, 11:17:00 PM »
Recenetly picked up a video toaster 4000 from a local company, plug it in, turn it on, and there is no video output.  I can here the HD loading up the OS and everything but i see no video output.  The monitor is a Trinitron Multiscan 200sx that i know is good..  I tried removeing the expansion cards and just powering up with the Sync Strainer plugged in, but still no video output, is there  a jumper on the system board i have to move to get this comp to work?  THe NTSC/PAL jumper is set to NTSC.

not sure that monitor will sync to 15hrz....  Youoneed to set the vid mode to productivity first (31hrz).

have you used this monitor with other amigas?

No, never used this monitor w/ an amiga before, How do i chane the video mode for 31 hrz if i do not have a monitor that works w/ the amiga?  Also, can i somehow hookup the video toaster to a TV to get a video out to the tv and use that as the monitor?  There where a few BNC to RCA converters in the box

you can't...  you need a realy amiga monitor... you will need an extra screen (or two) for the toaster anyway.  I suggest you get an old 108x off ebay.
BTW why kind of sync straner are you using?
The only kind the I hear work are the "prevue" ones.  But even  then the sync strainer is not what you want (won't get rig of flicker and won't workj with most monitors...), you need a toasterscan SCANDOUBLER, wich is impossible to find as they dont make them anymore. the internal DCE scandoubler is cool and $$$ but it WONT work with the toaster anyway..
yeah.....
have you ever ownd and amiga?  They are totaly unusual..

I forgot you can also get a 520 wich converst the monitor out put for your tv and then use a regular tv... the 520 are around on ebay for cheap... ($5 -$10) .  get ready for a very flickery experience....
stick with it, the amiga is a very cool machine once you get it tricked out, but it's not EASY.

(1) 200sx is 30kHz, so you need a 15kHz to see anything.
(2) SynStrainer info from the Big Book of Amiga Hardware:
•   allows the use of multisync monitors while the Amiga is in genlock mode
•   in genlock mode the horizontal and vertical sync signals are set to 7.8 kHz on the Amiga video port - these signals are not used by single scan monitors, but are required for multiscan monitors
•   when the Sync Strainer senses a genlock condition (as when the Video Toaster is started), it creates new H- and V-sync's from Composite sync
•   acts as a simple buffer for H- and V-sync when the Amiga puts out 15.7 kHz or 31.4 kHz horizontal scan rate
•   automatically switches between the various scan modes
•   a 2" × 3" × 1/2" module which connects to the 23 pin RGB connector
•   available with DB9 or DB15 VGA output connectors
•   works with any genlock which does not use the 23 pin RGB port
•   the Sync Strainer is not a scandoubler, the analog RGB signal is passed through unchanged

Nice to see some more questions, even if it is from a 2nd poster.
Won\'t hide my location.
