Aversion to Computer Games
« on: September 15, 2006, 09:25:35 PM »
I'm not sure why, but computer games just never "struck" with me.  Even as a teenager I hated them I do like games, just not computerized ones.  Golf, pool, chess, and cards --I like all of those and play every chance I get.  Only real-life versions though..  :)  Just curious if anyone else has this peculiar aversion to computer games?

Nope, although I like computergames to a certain limit. The games must not be too long, and must not require too much thought, or I'll lose interest very quickly. It took me a week to finally finish Turrican II (cracked WITH training mode!), and at this moment I've just started Act III in the PC-game Diablo 2, which I bought 2 years ago

I'm also quite picky on the games I play. I might like a certain platformgame, but absolutely hate another, which might not be all that different.

But you're right about the fact that "real life" games are much better. I've got about 40 boardgames (old and new) which I play also very often.

Nope! youre mad.   :-P

Actually, good for you, a game of real pool, golf or chess is a lot more rewarding and social than sittin in front of a computer by yourself.

I love computer games. I'm not very good at them though, so I tend to get bored very quickly

Im with you stopthegop.
I sometimes pass a few mins with a nice simple game like pacman or solitare but other than that, they just dont do it for me. Come to think of it though, Im not too fussed on other games either.
Now Im thinking about it I dont even know how I pass time at all?!?!

How many thumbs do you have?.....
I shoot pool quite a bit, and I tell beginners to use a good computer pool game to learn about using english! It usually helps.

hmm, necro-posting a bit :-D

I love games, so much in fact that I learn't to program and I'm now a software engineer (personally I think Code-Monkey is a better term) making games!

For me they were a social thing as well as a personal hobby. I've always preferred multi-player gaming like Secret of Mana on the SNES, Super Bomberman, Gravity Force/Power 2 (etc). Even ArmourGeddon from Psygnosis you could play over a null-modem serial link! In fact I think that was probably the first "network" game I ever played :-D Oh god and The Settlers 2 player...

Ah the memories... nope I love games, never understood people who didn't get them ;)

I don't like modern games because I'm useless at them and too lazy to learn all the special moves and key pushes that you need to know to get good at them. Gimme space invaders any time. I can just about get my head round that!
