Installing XSurf 3cc -- difficulties
« on: September 15, 2006, 09:07:11 PM »
I just bought a new X-surf 3cc and am getting frustrated withg the installation -- making windows look simple!

The install english requires AmiTCP Genesis install... boggles me why this was not included. Oddly enough, there is a AMITCP folder on the cd, but no way to install.

Could someone walk me through this either here or through MSN duck499@hotmail.com.

Thanks,
Simon

I'm pretty sure you have to have 3.9 bb2 in order to use the gui to configure genisis.  Otherwise it must be setup manually.  I have an x-surf and don't use genisis.. where did you read that it requires genisis?  Miami works fine with mine.  Connection is 1024mb cable.  Just copy x-surf.device to "sys:devs" and xsurfide to "sys:c" (assuming you are using one or both IDE channels on the card).  If thats the case add "C:xsurfide" to your user-startup file.  Run miaminitconfig and select x-surf.device unit 0.  Save the miamiconfig file, run miami, import the config...thats it.

You make it sound simple...;)

It recommends genesis, but will work with Miami, and no I am not using the IDE controller.

So, where do i get Miami from?

You'll have to forgive me. While I can set up gateways on freebsd and know how to install network cards on wintel boxes, I am lost with the amiga.

I figured I could install a network card with everything that came in the box. All I have is the small CD provided by amigakit and the main install cd from xsurf.

The small cd is called easynet -- I did nto install as the software did not say what it does -- appears it could be a browser of some sort...sorry for being green, but documentation is poor :(

Yes, you're right about that.  Docs could be better.  When you're viewing the contents of the CDs, make sure you have it set to display "all files".  Sometimes they put readme files and guides on CDs and disks without icons so you can't see them from a normal view, which is annoying.  Window_Menu-->Show-->All_Files.    Otherwise, check Aminet (not to be repititious) and look for x-surf related files.  There should be tons of documentation available there - for Miami and X-surf.

the installation of this mini cd copy all the files you need to the hd plus the amitcp to use with your x-surf. after this you only have to put the correct info to easynet. amigakit is  always available to help with any kind of problems with stuff that sales. why don't you just send an email to them first?

If i am going to have bugs on my system,
at least let me keep the latest versions.

Yes, amigakit is awesum. I have installed easynet... but for some reason, I can't get onto my own network, let alone outside. I can ping the loopback, but not even the ip I gave to the miggy....

I will call him tomorrow or Monday for support.

THanks,Simon
