My first Amiga was (by choice) a used A1000, when I could have spent about the same money to get a brand new A500. I liked the A1000 design much better and used it came with some games, and extra floppy drive. Over the course of a year I spent a small fortune on upgrading it with a DKB KwikStart ROM switcher, AdIDE hard drive controller, Spirit Insider 1.5mb RAM expansion board and a board or hack that came with the HD controller to make the external floppy appear as DF0:
That was needed because the massive 105mb HD was a 3.5 inch drive that was installed in place of the original floppy drive.
I used that Amiga 1000 for 2 or 3 years before moving up to an A2000. So, you can install Kickstart ROM(s) and a HD inside your A1000 if you find the right parts. It is a great machine and it holds the fondest memories for me. I lost a lot of sleep learning and playing on that A1000 and I still have it.
