Bvision PPC issues
« on: September 05, 2006, 02:27:57 PM »
I recently installed a Phase V PPC card with the BVision premidia2 video card into my A1200.

I am experiencing some issues. I spent many hours working on it and have some questions and concerns.

1st, I have the 3.0 Roms with WB 3.1 installed. If you read the stuff below and this is the obvious issue tell me plainly and I'll be happy to upgrade. Otherwise, I'm just not sure I want to invest into broken( :-( ) hardware.

I've installed WarpOS 5.1 (update) and Warp3d 4.2.
I've installed the CyberGraphX V3 drivers; carefully and several times to make sure I get the right things in my SYS:libs drawer.
I modified a 150W AT powersupply and carefully wired it to the floppy and MB connectors as suggested. I installed a nice heatsink and fan on the 040 chip and a heatsink on the video chip. I also successfully updated the flashrom on the phase V card as per the instructions.

So, my issue is this, all of the demos don't work. If I do the "Engine" demo, it renders a few walls and that's it.
If I run glsokaban or glgears-ppc I throws a PPC exception, with a register dump and I get a ZBuffer Error "Memory Shortage" And also an error that MiniGL can not lock the screen. If I run glgears 68K or any other 68K demo I get a garbled screen or window, but no exceptions or errors.

All the Bvision screenmodes work fine and everything else seems ok. The PPC (NON video) demos also work ok. The gxconfig tool reports my board correctly.

I've read the "problems" file in the WarpOS installation archive and set the env variables as suggested. I could NOT edit the tooltype as suggested. There is no CyberGraphix tooltype in my commodoties so I was a little confussed by this. Is this the issue? Do I have to make the tooltype somehow? Or do I just need to upgrade to 3.1 ROMS?

These errors are repetable and very consistant and do not vary with temperature or time of day.

Sorry for the excessive verbage! But you guys can be very  helpfull and I'm sure someone has some suggestions.

Upgrade your ROM with the one for GREX-1200, and use the CGX/WOS/W3D for GREX.
Keep the Faith !

In case you have another box with 3.1 roms, you might want to give BlizKick a try.

I believe I have a kickstart31.rom file somewhere on some pc from my old A1200. I also have an A600 w/3.1 roms, but I'm quite certain that won't work. If the blitzkick works I'll purchase the new roms. If not.. well, I'll post that exception and see if anyone knows it.

That did not work, and was a little scarry. I re-read the Problems file and aparently the latest version of CyberGraphX reported to work with Warp3D is 4.0+ My bad.. looks like you can download only 3.0 something. (without the CD)

I cranked up the screenmodes on the Bvision card and tested it as best I could and it gave no problems so hopefully it's not the hardware.

I just ordered the CyberGraphX CD + OS 3.9 so I can upgrade, hopefully this works out well.

P.S. the BlizKick trick works fine, but does not fix my issues.

I found that *any* grexx version of the firmware totally and utterly wiped out Warp3D on my BVision/BPPC. Consequently I use an earlier version (the last one before the grexx update was released).

Strange - and I can even use that version for my Mediator/Voodoo3.
