*cough*

Not eaten by a crocodile? How unfitting.

You know, you can touch a stick of dynamite, but if you touch a venomous snake it'll turn around and bite you and kill you so fast it's not even funny.-Steve Irwin

:-o

I heard it on the radio alarm this morning.  Made me sit right up.  Gobsmacked.

Stingray deaths are quite rare apparently.

edit
Unsurprisingly crocodilehunter.com is inaccessible just now.

Whilst I think his death is a sad loss (after all, he was massively entertaining) I struggle to comprehend why people find his demise surprising. The guy routinely messed about with dangerous animals. Sooner or later, something was bound to bite, sting, crush, gouge, charge or in some other way do him in...

It's the stingray part I suppose.  Only 2 or 3 people in Australia have been killed by one.

Many people have been injured and it's rarely even major.  The damage by the barb can be bad, but the venom isn't that dangerous to us (if at all).  Steve was just really unlucky that the barb hit between his ribs and got him right in the heart.

Anywhere else and he'd probably be laughing about it on Croc1 with the other guys.

What, he liked to wander round in the nude?

Joking.

Sad news, the guy really had a passion for his subject, and I always enjoyed watching his programs.  Back when i watched TV, that is.

PS - like the new Avatar.  What's that about bloodline's sock?  Did he drink you under the table or something?

I heard about it on rtrfm, when their full frequency did a dedication.  I thought they were joking at first.  It is very rare for people to be attacked by stingrays.  Most harmful incidents are actually accidental, such as when a diver steps on a ray, and the tail whips the leg as it swims away.  If the barb goes through the heart, I would say no emergency crew in the world could have helped him.  I feel sorry for his family.  I think he was something of a reckless crock-boy, but he seemed to be a pretty genuine guy.  Bummer.
Good good study, day day up!

Fearless is how I'd describe him.  Not including the fact that he's scared of parrots because they always bite him :-D

I was on his wiki page at about 1pm here and a few times since and never saw the defaced pages.
