Wanted: Amiga 4000
« on: September 01, 2006, 03:08:42 PM »
Hello everyone.

I'm looking for a nice A4000. The usual requirements; working(!), new battery, little or no yellowing, good condition etc.

If anyone has one for sale let me know. I have money waiting.

I'm in the USA, so if you are overseas then you'll have to consider shipping costs.

Many thanks in advance.

You really don't need a new battery, just make sure they don't have any battery damage that's all.

I'd recomend doing what I did.  I got a good condition 4000 from EBay.  Had very little battery issues but a bad Par: port and, after a few months the sound started going.  I'd added a CD drive and max memory so I wanted to preserve the system.

I sent it over to JJ at AmigaCenter.com in France.  Had the bad sound and par: port fixed, added a rechargeable battery, and generally reconditioned the board.  I had additional issues with my processor card which were also cured.  Highly recommend his service! He put up with quite a few questions from me and guided me when I needed it after the repair.

The downside, from Elk Grove, to your north, the shipping to desination times were on order of 2-3 weeks by international mail.

Good luck on your hunt!

Bob

If sound is bad like cracking noise, replace the two 22uF 16V capacitors and clean area beneath/around them, it works.

Hey,

Since you hail from Sac, drop by the SACC meeting.
I know at least two members have extra 4000's.

At a recent meeting I installed a new/used 4000 motherboard
in the vp's machine.
He got it for really cheap from another member.

It pays to support the local club!!!

I did this on my A4000D to no avail (not saying it DOESN'T work, just not in my situation.)  I found that after I resoldered the 68060 on my CyberStorm, the crackling noise went away.  Weird.........
