TFX actually ran pretty well on my 060/66MHz, totally smooth and playable. I do remember it being very buggy though.

I think the best thing you can do is make sure your system is optimized for getting the most out of AGA. (The game is OS-friendly IIRC?)

Perhaps you could ask the WHDLoad guys to make an fix/installer for it?

Personally I`d prefer more classic games with WHDLoad, for xmple Capital Punishment or Rally Championship.

Instead of using WHD for TFX would be far better a quick PPC/RTG port I think. Of course bugfixed ;P

I think on 060 (and 040?) you needed to run the standard executable of TFX. I think I'm right in saying that on the FPU version the cannon didn't work.

I also think FastExec (aminet) or similar will speed it up a little bit. (Works wonder with Star Crusader on 060).

I recently tried the demo of F/A-18 Hornet 2.0 for the Mac with Shapeshifter on my 060, and anybody who feels an Amiga can't handle a mid nineties flight-sim should probably do the same.

TFX is a long way from being optimised, so is Tornado AGA.
For air to air combat, I still think Falcon Mission 1 (with the Fulcrum) is great.

Apart from throwing a memory error on the Workbench as it was starting, and me not having a clue what the controls were, it worked really well on my 4000 with CS Mk1-060/50. The graphics were pretty smooth even in high detail with lots of AI planes about (all shooting at me!!!).

I used the 040 executable as the 040 and 060 instruction sets are closest related i think? It seems to work ok, but the whole game is a mess of unfinished-ness. If they'd finished it and optimised it for the amiga chipset it'd have made a great CD32 game with the CD Audio tracks from the PC TFX-CD version.
