Amikit or XP
« on: August 24, 2006, 03:41:59 PM »
Hi all, sitting here at my Computer desk, I am thinking of other Amiga owners out there.
I am wandering what would you prefer Amikit/Dopus or Win2000 or WinXP ?

I am of course taling about emulation of the Amiga computer not a genuine Amiga.

In my opinion I would rather have AmiKit/Dopus compared to XP.

For many reasons :-

1. I prefer the way Dopus is run.
2. Hey its an Amiga.
3. Directory Opus 4.17 should  ever need to use it.
4. The way the Amiga community sticks together with the programs they donate to AmiKit.
5. The shear size of Aminet.
6. Viruses well, I cant remember the last time I had one of those on any AMiga real or emulated.
7. The way Dopus is configurable.
8. Admit it, do you get the same fun out of Win2000 or XP ?
9. Would you rather trust a Win2000 or XP OS than AmiKit Dopus?
10. The Virus killer on AmiKit and how it is auto on downloading programs from the Internet.
11. You can use USB pens on AmiKit (plugged in first on bootup)
12. You can use ZipDiscs on AMiKit (disc inserted on bootup)
13. Downfall of AmiKit is you cant use 1.44 floppy disks on AmiKit they just dont show or work.

I could go on.............

Also, how many of your use Win2000 or Win XP compared to AmiKit/Dopus if AmiKit/Dopus is on your PC ?

TIA,

Mike.

I don't understand your question. If you want to run Amikit/DOpus on WinUAE, you need WinXP/2K anyway. So you don't have to choose, you can use both. You can even use both at the same time, combine advantages of both.

Regarding Amikit, I don't like any of the pre-built Amiga packages (AIAB, AmigaSYS, AmiKit, ClassicWB etc.). I rather prefer to use my own customised AmigaOS installation with only those tools I need and those colors and fonts I like.

Also I don't have only one WinUAE config, but I rather have many of those "my own customised AmigaOS installations" with different emulated hardware and software releases.

Bye,
Thomas

Ok, I will make it more simple then.
It dont matter if AmiKit is on Win2000 or XP.
As an OS what would you prefer ?  AmiKit Dopus or Win2000 or XP.

Well the Dopus part of AmiKit is easy enough to disable if you just want normal Amiga OS3.9.
I have 2 versions of Amikit.

1 is AmiKit/Dopus
2 is AmiKit/OS3.9 no Dopus running

You can start Workbench instead of Dopus by pressing shift key while booting, but I can't understand why would you like to do it. Unless you just don't know the features of the Dopus, docs saves a year of learning :)
