a4000d re-resurrection.
« on: August 22, 2006, 05:45:33 PM »
greetings everybody.
have just decided to resurrect my a4000d,
and what i would like to know is this;
is it possible to install the workbench floppies on to the hard drive using the external floppy port, or can it only be booted using the internal floppy.(i have a cumana external floppy drive)
i am also replacing the smt capacitors on the mobo/cpu brd.
removed the battery, whats the purpose of the diode strapped across pin 18 of the rtc chip and the smt diode d178.
does it disable the batt charging circuit i wonder?
have also ordered some goodies via amigakit.com
a mediator pci4000di busboard, graphics card next i think.
can't wait to get it all up and running.

        kind regards Lee.

It will happily boot from the external floppy, but it will have a lower boot priority than the harddrive.
Solution: Press & hold both mouse buttons on bootup until you get the 'Early Startup System' screen, and select 'DF1:' as the boot device.

You can also move jumper J352 to pins 2-3, this will make your external drive DF0:
