Amiga Games bought in Mainstream store!!
« on: May 12, 2003, 01:34:42 PM »
Hehe.  Got your attention.

I went into "Game" last week (a high street store in the UK) and managed to buy Amiga Classix, a collection of old Amiga games/demos with an Amiga Emulator for Windows.

Haven't got any of them to work on the PC yet! (Which they are supposed to).

Have yet to try them on the Amiga.

Just thought it was interesting to see a CD that is advertised for Amiga/PC in the shops.  Haven't seen that for a while.  :-D

Amiga Classix is just a misleading cd, what it claims on the box is not what you get on the cd.

"AMIGA CLASSIX is an original CD which includes over 300 Classic Amiga Games, Many of which are full versions." total lies.

Also some shops are still selling  "Gremlin compilation"  which should not be allowed as the games shoved on the cd are just pirate versions.

These CD's also come with kickstart rom's on them.  Are you reading Fleecy or McBill?  You could sue the arse off these people and generate some revenue for yourselves, you could probably also sue all the shops that sell the CD's and the distributor that sells them to the shops.  Plenty of dollars to be made methinks.

No, I remember Gremlin Compilation - some of the games are cracked versions because Gremlin no longer had the original code, and/or their protection prevented them from putting them on CD.  This is an official and totally legal CD, it is just unfortunate that circumstances mean Gremlin had to resort to cracked copies of their code due to the protection, erm, stopping people from copying them.

Bugger.  If I'd realised there was any doubt as to the legitimacy of this CD I wouldn't have bought it.

 :-(

@chris

There is no excuse, using cracked versions of games is a insult to the buyer and it is no wonder that warez compilation got slated in Amiga mags.

@mdma

Yep, i have the crappy Amiga Classix cd and every single kickstart rom comes on the cd and there is no text document or anything with the Amiga Inc seal of approval on it.

Amiga Inc should sue amiga-game.com.

Amiga Classix - So called legal cd with hidden warez.  :roflmao:

Quote from their site:

The CD includes all you need to get going, including a licenced Amiga KICK.ROM file, and 800 classic Amiga PD games like Deluxe Galaga and MegaBall.

Not that I'm saying I believe them, but I'm not saying I DON'T believe them either.  Does anyone know for certain that Amiga ISN'T getting anything for these ROM files?

No, I agree, it would have been far better if they had used jst/WHDLoad but I guess the required installers weren't available at the time.  I was just pointing out that even though it appears to be illegal, it actually isn't.

@YttriumOx (or can I call you Ben?)

Why not send an email in Gary Peake's direction?  I'm sure he can clear up whether they do have a licence to include the Kickstart ROM code.  As far as I am aware, the only licenced emulator distribution is Amiga Forever - certainly that was the case a few years ago, and I doubt this has changed.

The emulator page says the kick.rom is licensed

Better send a message anyways.

I'd buy a CD-ROM with a pile of classic amiga games
