To All Members: Re: Just won a Derringer 030!
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:14:48 PM »
I have been with the Commodore computers since the Vic 20 through the Amiga 4000 and I've been a member of this site since 2004. I enjoy reading the posts and generally escaping every day stresses here in the Amiga community. I hated to see the Amiga die, and did everything I could to help keep it's legacy alive. "irishmike" wanted a donation of hardware in order to "start a company to fix vintage machines (epically Amiga)." So I sent him two 4000 and a 500 motherboard free of charge to help get the company started. I am also currently in the process of fabricating several different types of replacement parts for the Amiga that are traditionally hard to find. )see photos posts under A4000 Hardware) These projects do take money, and the way I make money to fund my endeavors is through selling my old unneeded Amiga parts on ebay. My wife is gracious enough to do this for me as this is not my strong. She listed the Derringer 030 on ebay, realized her mistake immediately and tried to go in and amend the listing. Unfortunately, it was bought within four minutes of being listed, before she could finish making the changes. To make it right, we sent "olecranoa" AKA Jeff $10.00 for his trouble and offered him FREE shipping on any future purchases from us. This would give him the advantage over other bidders on the Derringer 030.
  Now, since we are receiving threading mail over ebay's system regarding this transaction, and due to the comments on this board regarding the same, I have made the decision not to peruse building any more parts and will only sell what I have now made. I am even considering leaving this board, because I do not need this stress where I used to enjoy spending my time.

It's unfortunate that you couldn't just post an explanation of your situation without the "I'm just going to pack up my bags and leave" part.

It makes sense to me.

Good luck.

You know what?  I am sick of people trying to nickel and dime crap to make extra money!  You (your wife) started the bid at $50 and whine it ended right away?  It would be one thing if it was at $9.99 or something and it ended so low.  Yes it would of been marvelous for you to start it at $50 and 6 days later see it ended up at $874.32.  But it didn't and a honest bidder complied with what was set and bought it at that price.  Since you claim to have been so generous in the past, why not just honor the bid and make sure your wife does not make that mistake again???

I am sorry YOU feel stressed out, but we buyers also feel STRESSED out when crap like this happens, ask Jeff how he feels?

@Ronmor

Dont get discouraged..........it was a simple mistake........but I would say honor it and give him what he won.

once its gone, you will be relieved.

it's not yuor wife's fault either..............but double check next time....and maybe put a reserve price.

Wife's are better than Amigas :-)

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Wait, you posted an item on eBay "by mistake"?
Oh, I accidentaly wrote a selling text about this rare hardware item, registered it to an auction and it just so happened that I pasted the selling text and then all of a sudden I had to ship this item into oblivion!

I'm just thinking that when you run a business you keep track of what's for sale and what's not. Personally, my parents threw out a lot of Amiga goodies when I moved out. A simple post-it sticker would prevent this, as you have just learnt the hard way.
Amiga: Too weird to live, too rare to die.

@ Carls
Read the explanation and other thread properly. A mistake was made with the auction type.

@all

I am with Ronmor on this. Leave him alone. It was an honest mistake and he has tried to make amends. The only person who has any right to complain about this is Jeff.
Ebay's trading rules aren't the be all and end all. Once in a while exceptions can be made. If it happens repeatedly then complaints should be made but this is a one off mistake.

ebays trading tules are the be all and end all of ebay trading.
the thing that makes this situation different is that both parties are amiga.org members.
the mistake that was made was not jeffs fault. if i found an accelerator for my amiga at a great price i would snap it up too.
the thing is though that this isnt n rippoff (to the seller) price. 50 bucks for a vintage accelerator isnt huge but it is decent. if she accidently listed it as buy it now 50cents i would have snapped it up then questioned the low price. i have seen accelerators for 500s go for 50 to 75 dollars. sure you may have made 300 bucks on this but you made a mistake and are now compounding it (reputation and stress wise)
please try not to make this type of mistake again. and if you do expect a similar email and forum response
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,
and its read only!

I understand an error have occured to witch your wife is responsible since she confirmed auction details that wasn't what was intended. The buyer is of no wrongdoing and the price isn't questionably low so you can't expect the buyer to just take this behaviour without rightfull irritation. Honor the bid, take it as the price of learning from your mistakes, and please don't mix in other irrelevant details into the boul about other goodwills, sick/dying mothers/pets or the like. My 2cent.

(BTW, a few moths ago I bought an A1200 with Blizzard1240+SCSI+external scandoubler+PCMCIA NIC+A600 + loads of bits and bobs such as SCSI tower and 20 original "highend" games... all for just 150$. And althoug seller got over 30 other calls in the next 2 days (before I could make the pickup) of bids well over 3 times the asked amount he honored our arranged deal. I actually trew in another 20$ for the seller just cause of the fair conduct.)

I called it even with the seller last night. I didn't care enough about the item to persue it any further. I am fortunate enough to have a very complete classic Amiga collection, and my life will go on without this piece.

Had I really wanted or needed that part I might have fealt differently about it. I did not complain to anyone, especially ebay. I considered leaving a neutral feedback, but haven't even done that yet.  If anyone, including ebay, is threatning the seller it is not my doing.

Jeff

 I hope Ron will reconsider making whatever little bits  for the Amiga.

  Perhaps Amigans are too quick to see evil motives where there were none,only human error.

I like how you made that glowing AMIGA logo on your black A1200 mod. It's like that's what they should have done in the first place. :-D

wow such a sad story...so depressing... On eBay you win and lose, if you can't handel that don't sell on eBay.  I thnk is very clear who made this mistake and they are lucky they did not get an actual complaint on eBay. I realy wonder about the strenth of charecter here.... Im not impressed with thei sad story.
Just follow the rules, It actualy VERY simple. No reason to wine here. Sad state of affairs......you know who should have the card now.... amazing.... :-?

Well I am glad the two parties came to an understanding.  But then again $50 is not that bad.  If the seller wants to get more than this, they should start it higher or have a reserve on it.  What happens if he relists it and it ends at $50 again with no buy it now?  Yes that can happen I have seen it!!!  I always use a reserve if I want a certain amount.

@ronmor

Just wanted you to know that I appreciate the donation.  At this time however, my company is still in startup mode and because of lack of funds myself (boy do I know how that is), the project is currently in a holding pattern.

Next week I return to school (seeking a BS in Computers and Electronic Engineering)  I have approximately 2 and 1/2 years to complete the program and hopefully with degree in hand, I can make some headway with my own company.

Anyhow, I do think your donation was generous for the A4000 parts and I hope you continue to contribute to the community.
