New/Old guy

My fellow Amigans.

I can't say that I am new to it. No, sir. I got my 1st Amiga (A500) back in '91. I could keep it almost for one whole year. Life had another plans though and I had to sell it. After a couple of years using PCs and Macs, I finally bought a brand-new-sealed-in-the-box Amiga1200HD. Nice thing. I also bought a scandoubler, an Apolo 1230, SCSI PCMCIA Interface and CDRom Drive. Spent a couple of hours wit it. Many hours acctually. And then again, it went to wardrobe.

Well, now things are different, and that I am sure. I've already have a place to it, time to dedicate and well, if not *that* much money, at least more than I used to have. Time is now. I already bought a couple of things like a PCMCIA Network adapter, a new and bigger HD and WB3.1 and 3.9. Planning to acquire a new Amiga in the next few years. It's gonna be cool.

For all this I will need this forum and I'll need some help. Maybe a lot of help. So many different new Amigas are out there, so many different OS's... I feel somewhat both confused and delighted. It's good to see people like you, like us, here talking about a 20 years passion. This is totally Amiga. Many thanks. It's nice to be back.

Long live Amiga. :-)

Hi Pierre,

>You can trick that 1200 quite a bit

Nice. I was wondering how. For one thing I'd like to keep it in the original case because I love the design. I may buy a second 1200 to put in the tower but is this better than save some money to buy a new Amiga like an A1 or Pegasus?

>What kind of things are you interested in doing with it?

Having fun. I'm not that much into games anymore, but I spend quite some time on internet. I'd love to see some ways to create TeX files, generate PDF's, create graphics and webpages and use some web/email. This is a good summary, I guess.

Hi BoingBoing, Welcome back to the Amiga.

The 1200 has alot of options if you go to Amiga Kit you will find many things. They are very good at shipping and not costly.

The A1 is fairly much dead unless you can find a used one (and that will cost a fortune) there are no plans to make any new ones.

Remember that there is no such thing as a dumb question as the only dumb question is a question not asked.

Yeah! I wanted to tower my amiga too, but I love the old school commodore case. I got my latest amiga about 3 months ago at a yardsale for $20. Amigakit has been my dealer now. I got my 4GB drive from him for cheap! I'd recommend an accelerator of course for anything serious. I didnt have much fun until I got a blizzard in it, now I can run all of my old apps, like finalwriter, pagestream, ibrowse.. man it's fun to come home from using PC's and Macs all day and just use my amiga.

I perfer the small case also!  you can get an 060 cpu card it will fit in the case.... Thats what I would look out for.  I would also get a scan doubler (if you don't alreadyhave one)  In terms of NEW amigas the only option you have right now is pegasos. (check google)  You can also try to get amigaXL and run amithon on a regular pc.  It's very fast but does not run games...  I personaly think your 1200 is great fun.  If you want a tower, I would suggest a regular big box amiga like the 4000. Amigakit is o.k. some of there stuff IS expensive , it's a mixed bag, make sure to check e-bay also...
