A3000 + CS mk2 060
« on: August 15, 2006, 01:50:07 PM »
Have found some conflicting advice on the fora, and nothing definitive through a hefty googling.

Could anyone please tell me the jumper settings for the a3000 motherboard in combo with a CS mk2

Which clock jumpers to set?
Are they set to int or ext?

I currently have the onboard 030, so presumably some jumpers need to be changed.

I have soldered on the INT 2 modification, and replaced the battery with a nice mobile phone NiMH 3.6V jobbie (as a temporary fix until I think of how I want to do it permanently).

Thanks all

IIRC (and it's been a few years), everything remained at INT for the CSMK2 in the A3000.  I don't have access to my manual right now to look.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

no jumper to adjust on the a3000, I have a setup like that and am sure.   The 3000 battery does not leak ( as often as the 4k...) install the driver disk then put in the 060.... must have the rigth libs.  I had to download them as the disk had old ones.  Forget the loaction. anybody?
( you need to adjust some jumpers on the 4k....)

Nonsense - the A3k batteries tend not to leak as badly as the A4k ones, but they do leak.

Hi Rich

FOr the Cyberstorm MK2 you dont need to set any jumpers  - It uses the DEFAULT jumper config on the 3000 motherboard from the factory.

Bog, then I have a slight problem as it's not working.

I'll dig out my a4k motherboard and try out the CSmk2 on that - I know it was working last month or so, but I moved it 60 miles since then (and I might have looked at it funny).

Does it work with the chipram installed on the motherboard?
Does it require 3.1 roms?  ATM I have only 2.04 roms installed (iirc).

Forgot to sacrifice a goat over it aswell...

EDIT - almost forgot, thanks for the advice and replies folks.

Just because -you- haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.  I started getting worried about my A3k's battery about 5-6 years ago. I had purchased it in 1990, so it was starting to get to -that- point.   I got a 3.6v telephone battery (many, many mAHs :-)) and when I opened the case, there was a little bit of leakage on the battery. It hadn't hit the mobo, yet, so I was ok.

Yes.  It has to.

I don't know.  The manual states "In order to grant the full functionality of the CYBERSTORM MK II we recommend the usage of Kickstart-ROM Version 3.1"  Note the "recommend", not "require".  I wonder what functionality is lost, though, with "lesser" roms.

Don't get any blood on the '060.  It stinks when the processor gets hot, and it's a bear to clean up. ;-)

And, as someone already posted, the jumpers are set the same as if you only had the onboard '030.

The battery  leaked in my A3000 and caused the Amber to fail.  Luckily after the removal and subsiquent cleaning all is well again.  Yes no jumpers to set, just plug and play on the A3K!

@pierre
I've fixed the battery in my own A3k and in one from a remote friend. There have been numerous reports of other ppl here in the forum with damaged boards - if you'd bothered to read them. I've seen dozens of old PCs with the NiCd batteries and they ALL leak sooner or later.
How many A3ks have you checked to be sure that none leaks?? 100? 1000?

I called your statement nonsense because it is dangerously misleading. It means 'don't bother looking, there's no danger'. Some people might follow that lead and will end up with a severely damaged board. I think I made an important point and stand to it. Talking of rude ppl...  :roll:

@Boot_WB

Remember that some CSMKII´s doesn´t work in the A3000.
If your A3000 will boot without fast ram on the CSMKII you have one of those boards
You can read more about it on http://amiga.resource.cx/

If you have bootstrap ROMs then it won't work.  It should however work fine if you have full Kickstart ROMs.

Did you install the screws through the board into the standoffs?  Because of a slight mismatch, installing the screws on mine just barely twisted the connector enough to prevent it working.
