Multiscan/multisync?
« on: August 14, 2006, 05:03:07 PM »
I just bought a second hand Sony multiscan 300 sf, and because of the name "multiscan" I wondered if I could connect a 15khz rgb signal to it. But am I now mixing up multiscan with multisync?

Regards,

Eyso

Scanning Frequency    Horizontal: 30-86 kHz

Alas, no 15 kHz there.... But it's a pretty good monitor if you have a scandoubler or an A3000

Yes I saw that, but since in my first link states that multisync is equal to mutliscan, maybe there's a scandoubler in the monitor itself :-)
Btw. it's not only Amiga I want to plug on it, also a Dreamcast and an Atari Jaguar.

but, hum, I can't blow things up if I'm wrong, can I? :nervous:

How are you even going to plug the Jaguar in, much less get it to output 30kHz?   (Dreamcast will work for supported games with VGA adapter).
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Negative.... What the multisync (or multiscan, whichever you prefer) means is that it can sync to any signal within the region specified.  In other words, anything from 30 to 86khz will be displayable.  15khz will decidedly NOT be displayable.

Pretty much all monitors sold nowadays are "multisync" (meaning that they can sync to anything within their given frequency range).  I don't think anyone has built a fixed sync monitor in at least 10 years or so.  Very few monitors can go down to the 15khz range, though.

Ok, since I was about to make my own thread asking for monitor advice, but saw this one, I'll ask here.

I've done some google searches for the Sony CPD-G500 21" trinitron monitor and found no details on the refresh rates it supports. (Other than top end)

Does anybody know if this monitor will support 15khz?

As far as I could find out, all Sony Trinitron screens start at 30kHz, so that's a no go as well...

So: does anyone know any common multisync monitor that'll do 15kHz? (I'm looking for one of those myself as well) Or is it better (cheaper) to buy a scandoubler?

No, definitely not. I have a SONY MultiscanG200 monitor, which is perfect for VGA screens, but when it comes to AMiGA native Pal modes, it goes "Out of scan range". I have solved this problem with a CV3D-scandoubler module, which is very handy in old apps (non-DOS, won't use the DblPal screenmodes).
You have to transform the 15KHz signal to 31KHz.

"If we don't got it, you don't want it!"

@ McVenco

Microvitec makes the only currently availalbe 15KHz monitor that I'm aware of. Unfortunately, it's geared towards hospitals, researchers, and scientists with bulk purchasing power. If I'm remembering correctly, they quoted me a price of around $1000 US for a single unit.
