A sad day
« on: August 13, 2006, 02:43:17 PM »
After much thought and deliberation I am coming to the conclusion that my
Amiga is coming to the end of the road here!

I have pretty much decided that I may sell my AmigaOne and replace it with a spanking new
Mac Pro complete with 20" Cinema display!

I will still have my Amithlon based system so will still be an Amigan, just
I feel time has marched on without us for too long.

I am very pleased with what my Mac can do (which my Amiga can't do at
present) and have embraced it with open arms, it is easy to use, never
failed me (yet), is fast, pretty much virus free and damn pretty too, what

I have placed an advert to sell it on AmigaWorld here: http://amigaworld.net/modules/classifieds/index.php?pa=viewannonces&lid=1261
more could a computer user want?

Macs are fantastic.  If your computer doesn't do what you want it to do then you replace it with something that does - nothing else should enter into it.  I hope you get a good price for your AmigaOne and I'm sure you will enjoy your Mac Pro :-)

Okay I've decided to say it first before someone else spreads some fanatic something to you, at least you are being realistic.

I'm pretty sure someone will be more then happy to take your AmigaOne off your hands.

Your Mac Pro is pretty sweet, and that's a killer screen. At least you will be able to run a COMPLETE, and MODERN operating system on your system.

A sad day indeed, but on the other hand; if you are in a position of having to make a choice you are taking the right one. I for one have my Amiga's not as my main machine; which is currently a Pentium Core2 Duo (Conroe) running M$ Windows. I have to, because I need it for work. The Amiga's I have are for nostalgic purposes only, although I do use them.

If however you can't spare the dough to have both, or simply don't have the space, you can't go wrong with a 20" Mac.

Hi Sicky:

I am in the very same boat.  For some time now, I have owned two Mac Mini's and decided to go the Mac Pro route as well.  I too have to sell some of my Amiga gear.  I am keeping one sole machine for classic games.

My stuff is still for sale.

here is the thread

I hope I can get some takers on the equipment.

Anyhow, the Mac is the only platform IMHO that even remotely comes close to the Amiga!

It is hard to make the decision (I know because like I stated I am in the same boat as you).

But the positive side of this is that the Mac is truly a great platform and it is rock solid.

I already have an offer of $900 so don't think I will raffle it. But I might bring it along with a "for sale" sign attached  if I haven't sold it by then.

Being an Amigan has always been more than just about the hardware. Whether it was on a 680x0, PPC, x86, or even in UAE and all its varieties. It's a matter of the heart, just like the little engine that could.

I'm glad you're keeping your Amithlon.  At least the kernals are still being updated, so new hardaware (lots of it) will always be available. Gary Colville will be coming out with 3.0x pretty soon. I here talk that there may even be dual-core, sata, pci-express support in the near future.

Most of my classic Amigas are dormant right now. But I am using my Amithlon regularly along with my Wintel machine. I even set one up at work, although it's camaflouged a bit since I use the same wall paper for both machines. :)

Hi,
AmigaCenter can repair and modify any amiga included AmigaOne (DMA/USB/NETwork modifcations...).
I don't understand why you buy a Mac ???
If you wanted a MAC PPC : buy a Pegasos2 and use the dual boot to get MorphOS+E-UAE and OSX PPC
If you wanted a MAC Intel : buy a last generation of Intel PC and put XP+WinUAE and OSX PC...
Keep the Faith !
VG 5000/A1000/500/500+/600/2000/CDTV/1200PPC-GREX/1200PPC -ATEO-BV/4060D/CD32/Aone/Peg 1/Peg2 G4/ various funny machines too  :-) http://www.mo5.com/collection/index.php?pseudo=CLS2086
I also repair drives of our old beloved Amiga

I don't suppose your rights as a beta tester are transferable to another user? :-P

If you have a look around on the E-UAE mailing list, there's some links to an Intel build of E-UAE for OSX if you're interested. No idea if it has the JIT compiled in though to be able to compete against Amithlon.

I know how you feel though, I haven't powered up my A4000 in something like 2 or 3 months, and then that was only to check something out on real hardware instead of relying on emulation on my iBook.
