It's full title is Elite 2:Frontier, so there is of course Elite (1).  Much more basic though.

If it's flying around that you like, try Star Crusader (no trading though, it's mission based)

Wing Commander (also mission based)

Nothing really comes close to the Frontier experience though.
A1200 Power Tower, Blizzard 1260 66 +32MB, OS3.9, 2.5\\" HD, IDEfix97 + DVD-RW + Zip, SD/FF + 15\\" CRT, Ioblix1200P + scanner, PCMCIA LAN + router

A man after my own heart.  :)

Well....... short answer: Not really, but there are some pretty good attempts at it. A game by Origin called Space Rogue is definitely worth a look. I've recently reviewed it on the Amiga Games Database, and there is quite a detailed thread about the game on the comp.sys.amiga.games newsgroup.

Not trading, but space combat; Star Crusader is a great game, with an excellent patch by John Girvin, it features a great storyline and some excellent dogfighting - not to mention Stealth missions!

Star Glider 2 was pretty popular, although it never really clicked with me.

Damocles maybe?

Again, mission based and combat oriented is the fantastic Warhead. I'm re-writing a review of this at the moment and hopefully there'll be a thread in comp.sy.amiga.games shortly.

Hope that's some help.

Well Space Rogue is a legal download as you'll see in the c.s.a.games thread. It also has a new WHDLoad installer written by the very talented Jean-François Fabre, bless his cotton socks.  :)

I think Warhead maybe legal somewhere, I think I read Glyn Williams had given permission to some site - but don't quote me.

Did I mention how brilliant Warhead is?  :)

Escape Velocity for the Mac is sort of like a 2D overhead-view version of Frontier. It works nicely under ShapeShifter.
