fleecy Q&A week 9
« on: May 11, 2003, 03:15:41 PM »
Direct link to Q&A session

Some rather interesting things this week, concerning how
the coupons/vouchers will be handled once AOS4 is out.
Also some general things and some interesting
comments/admits as to  why the AmigaDE didn't take off
as planned back in the day of them announcing it.

Furthermore, future AOS hardware compatability issues is
touched upon (without much detail though) and it's hinted
about a possible integration of Samba into AOS4 (albeit it
doesn't seem to be considered an optimal solution).

... and more.

Still a bit vaque (IMO)

Thats easy : OEMs want "content" for their HW, the just don't
care if it will run somewhere else (actually the don't want it
to run anywhere else).

There was and is very little and medicore content, and
that why they left.

I'm still wondering when the Scitech drivers will be ported,
cos according to the latest AmigaFuture article on OS4 it will
1st be ported to LinuxPPC by Scitech themselfes and than to OS4
by Hyperion. Doesn't sound like it is gonna make it this year.

>... and more.

What I found intersesting was that he finally admitted that
something wasn't "real soon now", but would take ~1.5 years. Still
no answer on who is gonna do it (Intent on OS4.x), but atleast
a start. Also gives a good idea how long it will take until they
actually get to the biggy (OS5) ...

And according to the "faithfulls" , every SW-project gets
delayed ....

Now if fleecy would just stop that stupid AG1/AG2 babble,
and I thought the term "classic Amiga" was bad
 :-x
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

At first Fleecy told us, the coupons will be accepted by the dealers. Later even Eyetech stated that they will not accept the coupons. Now Fleecy says the coupons will be inside the OS4 CDs. Did he contact Hyperion on the matter?

(As he mentioned a simple web based solution too, I doubt that)

Why would they be in OS4 CDs when not all A1 owners paid the $50?

@Dammy:
Maybe it`s because each copy of OS4 have its own serial number, then, when you register it with your personal info, you can ask for your rebate.Easy.Isn`t it?
Of course if you doesn`t have your Voucher/coupon/whatever, you cannot ask for nothing but support, but still can/need to do the registration.

Wouldn't it be a good deal easier just to send everyone that purchased a coupon a copy of OS4 with appropriate license, as soon as its released?

Stop talking and send out coupons, simple as that.

In Fleecy we trust.

I find it funny that he answered the same question twice.

I thought this was 10 questions with Fleecy.

I just woke up (and am still groggy), but isn't Fleecy implying that AmigaOS 4 won't be out until at least Christmas of this year or at the latest one year from now? (From q&a #9.)

No he isn't. He is saying that after OS4 they have a release-gap of 6-12 months for next releases. The first release after AOS4 is AOS4.1 and after that AOS 4.2. DE-integration is planned for AOS4.2, but may be moved into AOS4.1.

Onno

Well Wayne didn't want this as "news" and he rules supreme.
(I assume you posted it as a news item)
No matter what one might think of that general imposed
limitation as to what is news or not, one has to respect his
ruling - it's his site after all.
