Installing a scci cdrom in a amiga 2000

Hi to all

I’am trying to install a cdrom drive on my a2000.

First I wanted to know if the drive was realy there, so I checkt hdtool box. I told me I had no driver. I have a GVP 2000 HC+8 so I downloaded the install disk.

Learnt to extract a dms file and I now have a working non dos install disk. I booted from the disk used hdd prep and found out there was a plextor cdrom on ID1. That was all I wanted to know.

Do I still need a driver? Something like scsi.device?

The drive was there so I could focus on the software part.

Searched the forums and found a link to Amicdfs

Tried to read the .guide file, I still have no idea how to read it, so I used word for windows, now I have a almost readable piece of text.

Copy SetCDFS to your C: drawer. DONE

Copy AmiCDFS to L: If you own a 68020 or better copy
               AmiCDFS.030 instead and rename it. DONE

Copy the CD0: mount entry file to DEVS:DOSDrivers/ and edit it as described in the next section.

What is a mound entry file? I quest it was the CD0 file with the icon looking like a recycle mark and the strip under it, there was also a mc0 version of it

Step 5

Copy def_CDDAdisk.info to ENVARC:sys/ if you wish to use CDDA disks. Set the Default Tool as described in a later section of this manual.

What is a Envarc:sys/ ? do I have to make a directory called Envarc in de system dir or what? But it says CDDA so it must be audio cd related I ignored it

If you are still using Kickstart 2.x copy WBStart-Handler to L:, else copy  wbstart.library to LIBS: Yes I am using 2.x so DONE

Step 6

Copy MCDPlayer wherever you want. DONE

Step 7

Reboot your machine. DONE

I’am on it all day now and its not funny anymore is there realy no other way? What about os 3.1 has it support by default for cdrom drives?

Grab a copy of AsimCDFS off eBay for $5.

You've almost got it. In the CD0 file, change scsi.device (refers to SCSI interface on Commodore SCSI peripherals) to whatever your GVP board uses - probably gvpscsi.device.

ENVARC: is a system assign created automatically by the startup-sequence. It refers to the directory SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive. All your prefs settings are stored there. The contents are copied to RAM:Env on bootup for fast access. If you plan on playing audio CDs with your Amiga, the instructions are telling you to copy an icon to ENVARC: that will be displayed on the Workbench whenever you insert an audio disc. The default tool will call up a CD player program when you open the disc.

I have GVP HC+8 in A2000 and it works with 16x SCSI CD-ROM. I don't remember now what CDFS I installed to it.. not too long time ago, but can't just remember I could check it some other day. But anyway, it's not using scsi.device, it's gvpscsi.device or something like that. And unit depends how you've configured your cd-rom drive. SCSI id's are configured with jumpers on drive.

Where is the gvpscsi.device located? is it stored on the gvp eprom? of do i have to install it from the gvp instal disk?

How do i edit the cd0 file? word or notepad makes a mess of it. I remember there was a text reader called more or someting like that, but has it a file or text editor?

An easy ascii text editor I've used is AZ

aminet location

Just click on CD0: while holding shift and double click on AZ to bring up the script. Just change scsi.device to gvpscsi.device and save.

i got a cdrom hooked up to my A2091 with v7.0 roms, i was lazy so i used the ASIM CDFS. i was simple but not sure bought the aminet cdfs, but if ya get tired of figuring it out get the asim cdfs. i was simple

gvpscsi.device is in card's rom.. so you can't find a file.
AmigaOS comes at least with editor called ed. It sucks in many ways, but if you haven't installed better one, you can do simple things with it.
