US Power supply for a PAL Amiga?!?!?
« on: August 10, 2006, 11:47:31 PM »
Hi all,
I was wondering if it's possible to take a A1200 or A500 thats PAL; use a 110W power supply with it, and have it run just fine on an American 1084 Monitor or TV?

Also, will PAL systems run NSTC games just fine?

Thanks.

Yes PS it will work fine.

Monitors will be showing PAL image so most will work but will have it chopped off at the bottom.  The 1084 (boxy) will work perferctly in PAL though so get one of those if you can!

Monitor (RGB): Yes
TV: No*

* Unless you have a multi-system (PAL capable) TV.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

One last thing that's related to this; will an Amiga 500 power supply work on either an Amiga 1200 or Amiga 600 as well? Thanks.

The A500 psu is supposedly a little stronger than the stock
A1200 psu.  Can anyone post some figures?

I think that only applies to early A500 psu's.

I have 2 A500 psu's here that have the same output as my A1200 one.

I can't remember the numbers off hand.

The older PSU (the heavier one)
5V - 2.5A
12V - 1A
-12V - 0.1A

Newer PSU
5V - 3A
12V - 500mA
-12V - 100mA
If you have ghosts you have everything

Roky rulz!!!

US TV sets usually lack RGB input (no Scart). If yours doesn't and supports 50 Hz scan rate, it will work.
NTSC/PAL differences:
- composite color encoding (doesn't matter when using RGB)
- 60/50 Hz vertical scan (TV needs to support both)
- very slight horizontal scan differences - don't matter at all

A chopped off picture can never happen; if your monitor doesn't support 50 Hz the pic will roll vertically (dumb monitor) or won't appear at all (smarter monitor).
