Tracking on the Amiga
« on: August 08, 2006, 04:40:09 PM »
Ok, I have been putting this off for over a decade and have decided I want to get into creating tracker music on the Amiga. While I know the format has evolved and I have a highend PC, I would rather just start on the Amiga.

Suggestions for a newbie to the scene? Looking for something that will run on a 3.1 A1200. Would like to use something other than OctaMed. If it had tutorials with it that would be great.

Suggestions?

Ummm - back in the early ninetees (when I used to play around with trackers)
I used things like Soundtracker, ST-tracker, Oktalyzer and so on...
All the best,

Just as a matter of interest, what is your aversion to using OctaMED?

Nothing, really. Was just hoping to use something to create more standard .mod files, but I have no problem with OctaMed per say. Though I don't like how the interface was changed after version 4. I like that old school MED style interface.

I really like Quadra Composer which can save in regular mod format and is system friendly unlike ProTracker and most of it's clones.
Slightly bored and severly confused..

For a plaing a1200 i recommend Protracker 2.3d/3.15/3.61/3.62. That's what everybody used and still use. I prefer 3.62, but it's just a matter of taste. The later 4.x versions are very buggy.

Octamed SoundStudio is still under development (Open Source and slow of course) for the Amiga as well.

Check out Yahoo groups for their Email list on there.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MED_Soundstudio_Amiga_Platform/

Also, you can download the latest version of MED Soundstudio at:
http://www.medsoundstudio.com/amigadownlink.htm

There's also a full manual available in PDF format on that site.

It's freeware.

I like it a lot for the wide variety of sound formats it supports and the quality of audio you can get from it.

I keep meaning to learn how to use Octamed Soundstudio but haven't found the time. I want to learn how to make the beautiful sweeping synth leads and kitchy percussion from demo music. Are there any good tutorials on how to do this? I'll have a look at the Octamed Soundstudio manual one day so I can learn what all those little numbers mean! :-)
