The 128Mb modules, nice!

"U heeft daar een goede uitstalling van gemaakt! Amai!"

You added a long list of information!
But that is not what I need, I guess.
Flashlab explained me that being satisfied and thinking about the acual use of the miggy will give a good feeling.

More memory is still the thing that keeping me bussy.
I have the Blizzard 1230 and A1200 Power told me that it is faster than a standard. (so I have something more than usually). The external features can be used for other hardware (SCSI) where to finf a HD which I can connect to my SCSI-kit of this blizzard? Or an internal one bigger than 240 MB?

I learn more about the a1200, so keep me informed.

Greetings,

Haya Leirbag28,

Each time I answer/reply someone else, you posted something in between. funny!

I get happier each time I read this topic.
So much to offer, so less time!

I have the midi interface. A good one! 1x In 2x Out 1x thrue. Original Amiga! Yeah!
I use Octamed V5.0, I think it is not the original version, because everytime I start it, I get A screen that tell me that I have to buy some more , but after clicking proceed, I can make, save and load my music! It does not seems to me it is limited.
But I do not have the guide and manual. (Do you?)

I have the DSS 8+ sampler. Works Perfect!
I heard about a 16bit sampler (Aura ?). Is that good?

This whole quest for the giga Amiga started with the need for more Chip Memory. To make more samples...

You already have 64 Mb of FastRAM. That is a lot for an A1200. I really don't think you need more.

You can see how much memory the Amiga has left at the top of the screen in Workbench. Does the counter really reach zero when you use a lot of apps?

16) Even better, get a PowerPC/68060 and use OS4.0 and Linux

Can you tell us how to get legally OS4 when you are not a well known programmer ?  ;-)
Linux is slow aas hell even on a BPPC/240, but MorphOS rocks (Bvision or Voodoo needed).
Keep the Faith !

Are you asking me this question or just generaly?
After 10 years of being the owner of my A1200, I finaly start reading the book about Workbench 3.0  :rtfm:
Yawn!  My brains are not able to understand this (technicaly) english!

I need to ask the dutch-dudez on AOrg for help or the dutch translation/version. ???

And again: so much to learn, so little time.

@ ElZorro

..hi! I see that you are intererested in music composing, so IMO you also need an usable desktop resolution and frequency to work comfortably, so first of all I would buy a tower, mediator, voodoo and LCD monitor with SCART-IN (or RCA) for AGA stuff..

..A1200/ElBOX Tower/Blizz1240-40/64 MB/Mediator LT4/VooDoo3/4xEIDE/80GB HDD/Realtek 8xxx/Samsung 17\\" SM711MP LCD TV monitor with SCART-IN for 15kHz stuff.. OS 3.5 + A600 HD new!
Old things can not get obsoleted.. ;-)

ElZorro : forgot to tell you something about the scsi. If you want to use only an external scsi harddrive which is attached to your Blizzard 12340/4 then I think that your theoretical maximum is 8 Gb and not 4 Gb. The 4 Gb refers to the limit of the internal IDE port. In other words, if you can buy a cheap 9 Gb scsi hd then you can use the first 8 Gb without using any patch at all !! By the way, using only an external hd and leaving the internal IDE port empty will surely result in a speed increase as loading through the scsi controller will take a lot of load of the processor  :-D

@ElZorro

Haven't followed the full thread, but the boot-device is determined by the bootpri-parameter.

Herwego:

1. Reset Amiga and hold both mousebuttons

2. in the early-startup-menu check which device has the highest boot-pri (ignoring DF0:)

3. boot into workbench

4. start HDToolBox or similar and change the bootpri of the current boot-partition to 0

5. switch to the new boot-partition and set boot-pri to something between 1 and bootpri-DF0: (AFAIR 10 is a good number here, but it's been years since I used a classic).

6. save to disk

3. trees fingeros salutos  :-o
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

you want a super amiga just buy everything in my signature!

But be warned it all costs a fortune and isnt much use if you cant find the software that actually takes full advantage of it! Now that is the hard part

2) add internal Laptop DVDRW/CDRW drive

Several people told me they are toying with such ideas.
But I have yet to see any picture of this?

Can this be obtained without damaging the floppy frame?
Anyone has any picture of such installation?

Sounds great, where do I sign for order? 8-)

Prepare to invest quite a lot of money if you _really_ want to expand your A1200. It's fun to do, though, and you will end up with  very nice machine.

I have added tons of expansions myself and am running OS3.9. I still have (and will keep it that way!) my A1200 in its original case and will definitely not towerize it. The drawback for me is that I cannot use a graphicscard and will have to make do with AGA, thus creating a bottleneck for my system. This can be remedied for a large part by using only 4 colours on your workbench. 256 colour Workbench does look better, though... :-)

Anyway, if you want to take a look at an expanded A1200, just whistle. Schellinkhout is just around the corner, and you can reach Enkhuizen from there on your wenkbrauwen... ;-)
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200
