PCMCIA network cards that doesn't work "out of the box"?
« on: August 05, 2006, 07:48:21 PM »
 Hello.
 I want to buy a PCMCIA card for my Amiga 1200 to go broadband but i read in some posts in this forum that even some of the listed cards on the compatibility list of the 3com, cnet and prism drivers, needs to be configured/flashed using a pc first, in order to work on a Amiga.
 Could you tell me which cards are these so i can avoid them? I don't have a pc.

I don't know of any PCMCIA card that don't need a driver. I got a 3COM nic for my A1200, and I needed the driver from aminet. How are you getting online now? The driver will fit on a 720K floppy formatted on a PC. Then you'll need a TCP/IP stack of some kind.

 @pan1k

 I already have all of the 3 available drivers for Amigas, my question is NOT about drivers.

I've never heard of having to configure or flash any of the supported NICs.  So far I've used 2 CNET compatibles (Kingston KNEPC2T and a SOHOWare (no part number)), a 3Com 3c589, and a Prism (Netgear MA401) without ever having to do anything except load the device (and the configuration program for the Wifi card).
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

@adolescent

 Ok, thank you for the report. I should not encountered  any problems then, if i choose a card from the compatibility lists.
