Mediator Ziv
« on: August 03, 2006, 07:05:30 AM »
Hello ,
i have just started to set up my A 1200 with a Mediator Ziv and just wondering if i have to put the pci cards in any particular order ? I want to have a tv card , audio , network , Voodoo banshee . I have seen some pictures from the gallery with the voodoo beeing placed at the last position of the mediator . Is this of any meaning or i can put all these in any order ? I think i have read that in order to use tv card i need the voodoo , in fact in order to use ANY pci i must first install a voodoo or other graphics card ...  Any help would be welcomed  :-)

There have been some recommendations on Mediator mailing list, but of course I can't remember what :) I think it's been said, that Voodoo should be at first (I've interpreted that as topmost) slot, and there I've always had it. At the moment I have from up to down Voodoo3, TV-card, 10/100 network card and SpiderII USB-card.

I never had audio card in PCI, maybe that's more picky about order... I'm using Delfina Lite soundcard in Zorro, that's way better option than ay SB ;)

In any case it's good to have Voodoo installed (first). Some other cards depend of it's memory, although not all. IIRC 10/100 NIC needs Voodoo, but 10 Mbps NIC doesn't. TV card needs gfx card in PCI bus as it transfers picture directly to it. Works even if Amiga is crashed or multitasking is disabled ;) I'm not sure if it has to be exactly Voodoo, but I'd say you don't have other options as Virge is too crappy :)
Daily MorphOS user and Amiga active.

Well finally i found this  at http://ext.neostrada.pl/faq.shtml.htm#7

" I cant get my 10mbps Ethernet Card to work with the Mediator, whats going on?
It appears, from various users (myself included) that the Network card usually works best if it is in PCI slot1 on the Mediator (nearest the accelerator on the Mediator A1200). This should solve your problems. I have The Network card in PCI Slot1, the Soundblaster in Slot2 and then the Voodoo3 3000 in Slot4. If the Network card isnt in the first slot the system may refuse to boot or when you come to actually using the card your TCP/IP software will not be able to find it."
Anybody had similar problems ?

Hey amigo!

why not just experiment? you can't brake/burn anything (provided u put the pci cards in place lol) and see...
I had:

---empty or spider2 ----
---sb128 ---------------
--- lan ----------------
--- voodoo3 ------------

and all worked as expected...  :-D
