DO NOT PULL IT OFF THE BOARD!!  If you do you will be posting an ad for a new motherboard!

You can cut or break the legs or do it the correct way and remove the motherboard, and unsolder the three legs, then clean the area with isopropyl alchohol.

I've had good luck with rocking the battery back and forth.  Not enough pressure to damage the board. The pins will begin to give very quickly and will break off clean.  I've done this on an A4000 and A3000.  The method was recommended by a local tech.  I've since had a new rechargable battery added to my 4000 by Amiga Center France so I know I didn't do any harm to the system.

The best way to do it is to buy a real cheap soldering iron (3Euros) and heat the three points at which the battery is soldered to the botherboard. While you heat each one of them, the according battery leg will go loose and you will be able to pull it out of the solder hole. The A2000 is probably the most convenient Amiga when it comes to replacing the battery, as there is not much in terms of components near the battery.

My notes here apply to the A2000 as well.  Same circuit as in A4000D, just in a different box.
