Amiga 4000D Full, cooling solutions?
« on: July 28, 2006, 11:00:56 PM »
Hey all, my 4000 Desktop is getting rather full, and hot in the summer heat, I just wondered how everyone else is managing, referring in particular to PSU mods, since the original PSU is a bit of an air trap :)

Has anyone fitted a smaller PSU and used the extra gap for airflow?

Photos would be appreciated :)

I put in rounded cables, and a LiteOn (short depth) DVD/CD-ROM to give the stock PSU a little more breathing room..  I also added an 80mm fan to the card side.  I plan on doing some "swiss-cheesing" of the lower side of the front bezel and out the back. by the card slots.

(Sorry, no pics as it's a long work in progress...)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

If you look here you will se in the top right my A4000d befor I towerised it I placed a large 80mm fan on the outside of the case neer the front on the left side Pulling air through the case. This worked wonders at keeping my Video Toaster cards cool. I placed another smaller fan pushing air in on the right side right where the CDrom and the power supply meet (there is a space just below the CDrom drive perfect for a small 40mm fan).
I used my Dremal to cut out the proper circle for the fans.

That's why the A4000T is much better when expanding it. There's no easy way around. Some guys here have modded the PSU case to allow more air flow, apart from the obvious use of round cables. U could also mount the CD externaly.
