networking an a2000?
« on: July 28, 2006, 09:04:01 AM »
gday all,
I wish to add my a2000 to my network,is their a guide around to do this that i can download.
I have a golden gate 386 bridgeboard and an isa network card but I am not sure what do next.
Do I have to add all the hardware to get windows 3.1 up and running on the machine first or just have the bridgeboard in the machine with isa network card and install certain software to get it running.
many thanks.

@nahoo7:

If you have the Sana-II driver for your setup working, check this AmiTCP installation guide out.

What bridgeboard, exactly, is it you have?

You could try Etherbridge (available from aminet) in conjunction with your favourite TCP-stack (e.g. AmiTCP). However, the Etherbridge readme only mentions Commodore bridgboards (A2088, A2286, A2386), so I am not sure if it will work with the Vortex. It's worth trying though...  ;-)

okay thanks very much for that will give it a go.
Do I have to load any of the bridgeboard software or just have it inserted into the a2000.

You might want to search the net for some kind of tutorial. From what I've seen, the installation is not quite trivial.

okay thanks for the reply,
I seem to remember that there was a program that would allow the use of an ne2000 or compatible card in an a2000 without the need of a bridgeboard.
But I may have been dreaming at the time ,many thanks.

Sure you can. However, you'll need to get your hands on an NE2000 card with Zorro-II slot.   :-)

You are probably talking about the GoldenGate card which activated the ISA slots for use by the Amiga.
Its a very old card now, although I guess so are ISA cards. :-)
The best place to look for one is Ebay.

I was just hoping it would let the amiga access the isa slots as the ne2000 and the bridgeboard takes up the 2 isa slots and I dont have a graphics card that can utilize the either the remaining zorro ll slot or the 8 bit slots.

The Commodore bridgeboards come with an install disk that installs the janus.library in the Expansion drawer and some programs in the PC drawer to start the PC. It does not matter what you install first: the bridgeboard or the software.
I do not expect the etherbridge network to function with the Goldengate. Sorry, German only.

Some ISA VGA/SVGA cards will work in an 8-bit (XT-bus) slot, so you might want to give that a shot if you don't have 8-bit bus video cards on hand.
