Newbie questions about upgrading my A1200

After various previous financial committments have stopped me giving my A1200 the attention I have wanted to for the last few months I am going to be in a position to start upgrading the thing very shortly.  I've had a look and there seems to be no shortage of options and it's left me a tad confused.

I don't want to put the machine in a tower case, as I plan on acquiring another A1200 and towerising it later on so I really want to keep it in the desktop case with as few external peripherals as follows.

What would be the best accelerator that I could use in the trapdoor port that wouldn't cause the machine to overheat?  

I am looking to get a cd/dv drive to use OS 3.9 so what would be the best IDE interface I should use?

I'd say some 060 accelerator. 68060 runs cooler than 68040.

IMO the best one would be Blizzard 1260. It supports most memory and has SCSI-II option with SCSI Kit.

Well... the best is har to say... you want 030 if you want most compability with games... 060 is ofcause an upgrade to that CPU but you sacrifice compability so make sure you need the extra power.

I'd go with a Blizzard1230 or Blizzard1260 With SCSI kit, then have an external SCSI CDRW (or better yet a small SCSI tower for both CDRW and HDD for much speed improvement over any IDE HDD solusion).

Like Brian said, a Blizzard 1230 is great for compatability and a generous speed increase, a Blizzard 1260 has a little less compatibility but lots more speed - normally, I think its chip access maybe slow.... But, I would personally stay away from an 040. They run hot and from what I've seen have the most compatibility problems.

GVP is also a very good make, but its worth knowing their ram was non-standard and therefore not readily available.

Well ideally the machine would be used primarily for games but I might want to muck around in some graphics programmes on occasion, so it looks like the 1230 would be the best choice.
