Adios Amigos
« on: July 22, 2006, 10:25:32 AM »
Hello all,

Or rather goodbye.

I won’t be participating in Amiga.org for much longer.

I don’t want to make a song and dance over it (says the guy doing a song and dance about it), and I guess I could have just stopped posting.  However, my parents always taught me to thank people for the hospitality they show me, and I couldn’t just leave without saying something.

Firstly, thank you to Wayne and his team for creating and maintaining this place.  It is a great site, and you all should be proud.  I know that I have occasionally had disagreements with the staff, but hope I hope you know how much I’ve truly appreciated what you have done. (And I hope I haven’t been too much of a pain in the rear)

Next up I want to say thanks to all the great people that I’ve had the privilege to interact with through this site.  Sadly, many of them are no longer around (on the site I mean ;-) ), but those of you who are, thanks ever so much.  I’ve been so entertained and educated by you guys and gals.

There is no event that has sparked this; it’s something I’ve been thinking about for some time.  It takes a lot of time to keep up with what’s going on in Amigaland (even when there is seemingly nowt going on!), and even more if you want to participate.  I’m neither the fastest typist, nor the best with words, so I can sometimes spend half an hour or more writing a reply.  The time has come to do other things instead.  I certainly won’t be dumping my Amigas, in fact I will using them more if anything.

There were a few things I wanted to start threads on before I left, but I don’t really have the time, or the ability to make the posts without rambling on and boring you all to death (not a good note to leave on).  So I’m afraid I’m going to have to take my Amiga Inc./Amiga Power Platform stories with me ;-)

So once again THANK YOU!  I hope our paths may cross again sometime.

P.S.  While thankfully it doesn’t apply here anymore I thought I’d bring my old favourite avatar out of storage one last time :-)

@Uncharted
Why leave at all ? Just make your visits less frequent. If you do leave, within 1-2 years you'll be visiting again checking what has happened meanwhile  8-)

Andy:

Hope you will decide to stay on and "lurk" from time to time.  You can of course keep up to date that way.  If you feel compelled to write answers to posts and this is why you are leaving, then perhaps, you DO contribute greatly yourself to this community.

BTW:  I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that as a public forum, we should let the opinion be heard.  This does not mean that we have to agree with everything posted, just remember that everyone here has feelings and opinions and we should do our best -- even if we think the poster is full of gump, to hear them out.  If they get their facts wrong, correction is okay -- as long as it can be done without demeaning the individual who posted the original question or comment.

Anyhow, if you still are going to leave, I wish you a safe and trouble-free journey.

Take care,

Mike
