CV 64/3D scandoubler?
« on: July 18, 2006, 06:50:39 PM »
Please tell me, is the CV 64/3D scandoubler supposed to show early boot menu/ kickstart screen? (no HDD or other cards attached.) I need to know as soon as possible.

PS.
How can I test it and card itself to see if its working from a floppy disk?

Better sorry than worry.

Damn, its dead :-(
Is it ok to just leave it plugged in even if its broken? (non 15khz modes work fine)

Its towerized A4000, and veryvery hard to remove all cards.

(The previous owner sold me Amiga with CV 64/3D installed and scandoubler separately, should have suspected it, oh well..)
Better sorry than worry.

Yes, there are two jumpers and each one consists of three small ones that I guess should all be either on or off.
I have played with them, they should selecet output connector, but nothing..

So, would it be ok to just leave it as it is, inside working Amiga?
Better sorry than worry.

I guess as long as there comes no smoke out of the case there should be no problem. What happens if you connect the monitor to the scandoubler instead of the CV3D ?
In CGX there is a variable that switches off any monitorswitchers, so maybe the scandoubler works just fine the CV3D just doesn`t switch to it.
The variable should be something like NOPASSTHROUGH

What Amiga do you use the card in ? The scandoublermodule is quite picky. I only runs flawless in an A4000. I doesn`t play all to well with A3000 and some 3rd party A4000 busboard videoslots.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

its towerized A4000, I got Picasso96. When trying to switch to PAL mode the screen freezes.
guess I'll just leave it there, thanx

I think that's what you're supposed to do, actually.

And double check your software settings.

The manual says jumpers select output port.

BTW, I have seen here that CV 64 is faster than CV64 3D, but how much faster? Is it really noticable in simple tasks? Are there any benchmarks?
Better sorry than worry.

You can use the scandoubler by itself without the CV643d.  It should show the even the kickstart screen if working properly.

It might not work properly if it's hooked up to the CV643d and the jumpers are wrong.  Been a while since I set mine up so I'm not 100% sure about this.

Also, the scandoubler might be fine.  It could be the video slot in the 4000 mobo that's bad...

CV64 has a faster bus than CV3D, but it has a slower blitter.

CV64 is faster and has much better picture quality than CV64/3D. It also has a passthrough VGA port so you can use any scandoubler, not just a CV64/3D scandoubler.
Slightly bored and severly confused..
