A2000 mouse-port is dead.. I think..
« on: July 11, 2006, 09:31:39 PM »
Hi,

I've got a really nice A2000 that i dug up today, only to find the mouse doesn't work. If the mouse-port is the left port, then only the mouse buttons are working. The mouse is fine, as it's the same mouse as i'm using on my 1200.

Does this meen i have to get a new Motherboard, or is it fixable?

Please help, i would love to get this beast up and running again!

Could be something stupid like a CIA (8520) chip worked loose.
If it's been in storage a long time, open it up and make sure all chips are fully seated in their sockets.

If that doesn't fix it, check the list of possible problems at the Kickstart Archives A2000 troubleshooter
On schedule, and suing

Thanks for the reply Doobrey.

I don't think it ever worked really. I bought it a few years back, from my old school. It had been used for video editing. And the teacher had plugged in and out something occupying the mouse port (something used with a genlock i think) so many times the mouse had stopped working. However, everything else is working fine.

Thanks for the link, but i really donæt understand all those number.

-----------------------------------------------------------
" 1#  Mouse does not move, left and right mouse buttons okay, joystick okay:

    * EMI 1401 5.1 ohm resistor (supplies 5 volt to mouse). A2000 Rev.6 and up: F1 4 amp pico fuse.
    * 8362 U4 (U201 A2000)
    * 74LS157 U15 (U202 A2000)
-----------------------------------------------------------

Does this meen i have to replace some chips on the motherboard?

And i'm sorry to say, i don't know what rev. it is. Probably early. How can i find out?

I've got an advanced Amiga analyzer, if any data it will give can "help people help me"!

Check between the two middle pins of the bottom row of the mouse port. there should be 5v there. On later motherboards, there's a fuse for this - it looks like a resistor with no color bands. On older boards, a trace on the motherboard burns up. But it can still be fixed with a bit of 30ga wire.
I saw enough of that when I repaired Amigas that I wired an LED & limiting resistor to a DB9 plug for a quick tester. :-)

Pin 1-4 controlls the movement of the mouse, right? None of these get any data as far as the "AAA" is concerned. So this meens i have to either get a new fuse, or if my board is older, i will have to add som wire to it?

Hehe.. Sorry, i don't know what i'm looking for.. Feel like a pissant here.. Hehe :roll:

Edit: My board is rev.6! Just found out!
So i guess i'll have to replace the "F1 4 amp pico fuse"..?

The buttons don't need power, they're just switches. That's why they work and the motion does not. There is circuitry in the mouse that needs power.
If you've got the rev 6 motherboard, it sounds like the fuse is blown. Not exactly a Radio Shack part, but you should be able to get one from a real electronics distributor. I think we got them from Mouser, but that's over here in the US. I don't know the EU dealers.

good luck
