BlitzQuake, how? que?
« on: July 10, 2006, 07:39:59 PM »
Just bought Quake 1 (PC version) and want to run it on my A4000 PPC (Voodoo 3 etc) and wonder if someone could give me a quick step by step instruction on how to run BlizQuake.
imho I think the docs that is included with BlitzQuake are very fuzzy that's why I need some guidance.
So I just need to know what I need from the Quake cd for BlitzQuake to work and if I just launch BlitzQuake by it's icon or do I need to start it in shell?

just install quake on your pc Amigaz, and then take the ID1 directory and transfer it to the amiga... u need to have the ID1 dir on all quake ports in order to use them...
but I *never* succeded to run blitzquake on my 1200ppc, always some kind of error that I cannot remember... it is the warp3d version, right?

Yep, it's a Warp3D version  :-)
With the docs included in GlQuake and BlitzQuake it's no wonder it's mission impossible to run it

lol tell me if u succeed, the warp3d should speed-up quake... I have tried the software renderer ppc versions, I got some 20fps, but the 3d acceleration should push it to maybe 30fps...

I too have been trying a long time to get Some Variant of GLQuake to work on my CSPPC + Prometheus/Voodoo 3 3000 combo.

Quake 2 works great but it's the original I really want to play, GLQuake from Soft3dev grey screens and Blitzquake 68k works, but Blitzquake WOS always says it can't load GFX.wad, and snoopdos only reports a fail on looking for pak2.pak.

Maybe unpacking the .pak files would help?
Going to fiddle with it tomorrow  :violin: hopefully some people will give us some nice hints while we sleep  ;-)

That's what I hope but the PPC version (from the Nightlong Cd2) works quite smooth here..must be 30fps+ but I think the GL version will have sm oother graphics  ;-)

don;t try to unpack the .pak files, the quake.exe does that and it expects a .pak file, not extracted data. are u sure you have the files INSIDE the ID1 dir?

guys...quake on amiga?
bad bad option
come on...we're in the year 2006
keropi says 20 or 30 fps...ohhhh..
that is not playlable
a game playlabe stays at 60fps or more ..that's the real world

anyways..I don't care
I play direct3d version of quake on my pc at 1600x1200 at constant 85fps...using hi res textures and antialisasing x8
are there  a quake miggy port that  can do that?
jejeje
como on guys...an inteligent quake player play the game on fast PC with a midrange gfx card
anyways I see that some of us still live in primates times

bye, Laser

@Laser

er, this is an Amiga forum and they want to play Quake on their machines, so let 'em.  You're argument reminds me of a friend of mine who used to play Battle of Britain on his 286 and then found it unplayable on a pentium years later (too fast to play).  For quake, 20fps is playable in 320x200.  And I doubt John Carmack was playing it in 1600x1200 & 85fps back in the day it was released.  Why don't you go tell him he's not an 'inteligent' quakeplayer (whatever that is).

Anyway, GLQuake and Blitzquake both work fine, at least they did on the CSPPC/CVPPC setup in my A3000 and on a Prometheus/Voodoo3/GVP4060 in my A4000.  You need to use iirc at least version 4.2 of Warp3d.  Make sure the gears Warp3d demo program works for ppc and 68060.  There is a readme file with Blitzquake which explains pretty much all of it.  Just keep trying, and make sure you set the stack to the required amount if so needed (maybe blitzquake requires this, I don't remember).

Argus,

I see that you are not an expert gamer
cause you can't say that 20fps on a 1st person shooter game is playlable
20-30fps it's an ugly ugly thing
on 1996 the hardware available on that times let the quake play at 300x200 but at higher framerate...maybe near 60fps
that's is smooth and playlable.....
clickboom did a fraud when years ago made an unplaylable port for the 040/060 equipped amigas
the 060 version of clickboom maybe do 10fps
that's was a FRAUD

anyways I still recommend play quake on a pc even on a low-end pc is better than on any amiga

Actually, you can quite happily unpack the .pak files and play Quake on a PC using only the unpacked files.  I used to do this a lot back in the day when there were mods coming out every day.

Don't see why you can't do it on the Miggy aswell.

on my setup it pops a window: INSERT VOLUME QUAKEDIR IN ANY DRIVE, then iconx complains and finally it says it cannot open audio.device...  :-?  :-?  :-?
the docs just suck...

edit: if I assign quakedir: to blitzQ directory, it just crashes... it also needs 600K stack size!
