Easy question!
« on: July 06, 2006, 10:08:03 PM »
I am trying to figure out how to add icons to my workbench screen, like a shortcut, and alias, whatever. Is it possible to do this?

open the directory that has the icon you want, and from menu right on ''Leave out''.
A3040/25 AmigaOS 3.9
A1260BPPC AmigaOS 3.9/4.0
Sam440ep AmigaOS 4.1.2
PegasosII/G3 AmigaOS 4.1.2/MorphOS 2.7/Debian 5.0.7/SUSE 11.1
MacMini/G4 1.5 MorphOS 2.7/OSX 10.5.8
Long Live Amiga

If i am going to have bugs on my system,
at least let me keep the latest versions.

Find the icon you want to have on your desktop, select it with the mouse and then choose Icons->Leave Out menu option from the main workbench screens menu. The file you choose needs to have a proper icon (ie visible when show all files is turned off) for this to work.

Doing this actually modifies a hidden file, called .backdrop in the root of the volume the file lives on. You can edit this by hand if you want to :-)

Hmmm

I think the easiest way is...........take the Program Icon you want.and just drag it to the desktop.................while it is still highlighted or selected...........go to the Menu ontop..........selects ICONS........and "Leave OUT"

Now snapshot all icons.....again from the menu...........and it will stay in the spot you dragged it to.
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

None of the above are "Shortcuts". They effectivily move the file to the "desktop".

IF YOU DELETE THE ICON ON THE WB SCREEN THE PROGRAM WILL BE GONE!!!!!!!!!!

You have been warned!

An actual shortcut would be to create a copy of the program's icon (.info file), change its type to Project (Information in 3.5+ can do this, IconEdit otherwise), set its default tool to the real program, and then leave this new icon out on the Workbench.
