I have an Amiga 500+ v3.1 Roms.

I have a Mtech At-500 side car and a Dataflyer express side car.

I tried 4 different IDE hard drives and cannot get any to detect.

One was 4gig , 20 gig, 10gig and another 20

At least 2 of them are verified to work.

Can the sidecar take the 80pin ide ribbon cable without a problem?
I have the older ones but it has a pin stopper in it and wont work on the side car part.

Was there a limit to the size HD a 500 can take?
I have a 250meg working off the At500 but its old and small.

Will I have any prob adding a large drive to a 3000? What about a A600?
I ordered a 4 gig laptop drive for my a600 should it work with v2.05 or v3.1 roms?

thank you for any help

Since the firmware for those sidecars are built in to the sidecars I don't think the advice I was about to give about AmigaOS 3.5+ being reccommended for a 4+ gig hard drive would be relavent.  If it is relavent you'd be able to format a boot partition of a couple hundred megs and then use the later AmigaOS to install the 64-bit capable filesystem on the work partition (the rest of the drive).

One thing is certain:  You can't format a big drive to just one partition and expect a classic Kickstart ROM of any version to boot it.

I don't think you should be using an 80 pin cable - I would stick to a 40 pin cable.  I would keep it as short as possible too.

Good luck!

I don't know why you waste your time with the A500 hardisk problem if you have an Amiga 600 with hardisk and working fine?

on the other questiosn you can add anysize of hardisk to your A600 using 2.05 or 3.1 however you need a patch for the scsi.device if you wanna make large partitions
I recommend idefix97,also you will need install a new filesystem like SFS or PFS3

but if the disk is only 4gb you will not need patches...make 2 partitions of 2gb each one
that's all

identical patches you will need for the A3000 if the disk is biggest than 4gb
