Advice from Ebay pros please?!
« on: July 03, 2006, 10:50:21 AM »
Hi everyone,

I wonder if I could ask for some advice from you seasoned pros - I have finally admitted that my lovingly assembled Amiga collection just has to go. No room and I would rather it was being used by someone who appreciated it than sat in a box.

It's an expanded A500+ (2 meg) with all the usual bits, 2 sticks (I regular, 1 konix handheld), 2 mice, 1 joypad, 1 handheld scanner with software and manual, Workbench (...can't remember version...) and original manuals all in great condition. deluxe paint 3, about 3 different word processors (Works, Protext etc), some programming bits (AMOS, Shoot-em-up construction kit)...

Plus I have a great games collection, all originals, boxed with manuals, and classics for the most part - frontier, monkey island I and II, lemmings I and II, zool, wizkid, F16, alien breed, SFII, civ II, sim city, populous, powermonger....... about 50-60 altogether.

3 years of coverdisks from pretty much every Amiga magazine going!!

It's going to take me a while to write up the Ebay ad but before I do so do you guys have any tips for doing my Amiga justice? are people going to be interested in the mem upgrade, the scanner, the slavishly collected coverdisks... any ideas for presentation would be great. I'm a real newcomer to selling on Ebay and as well as not wanting to get ripped off, I want to do it with a bit of a fanfare.

I have spent all weekend playing with the amiga and am on the brink of having second thoughts, but it really has to go.  :-(

UK - we have small houses :) and under my bed is where I keep my winter bedding, which I'll need come August

There really is no option - sure i could keep it, but it's in a box, never used. I haven't enough room for the stuff that i use regularly!

Decision to declutter irreversible.

That's why we in the United States work all day long, and all life long, so we can have bigger houses with closets. Yes we are a materialistic country with a lot of Needful Things. Oh yes...

I'm sorry to say, but you really won't get much for an A500 on eBay.  With all the accessories, maybe £10.  The problem is that there are millions of them out there, and they regularly sell on eBay UK for a £1 - £2 + postage.  Even this auction for an A500 + another 3 A500's for spares + games and PSU's + A590 HD + A520, Scart cables etc only sold for £10.50.

If you want to get the most money, split everything up - even to the point of taking apart the A500 and selling off the socketed chips individually.

If you sold everything in one lot, you'd be lucky to get £10.  Sell it off in parts, and sell the games individually at 99p starting bid you might get £50

Lando's right.  If you were in the states, a setup like that would fetch a lot more because US bidders wouldn't need to ship it overseas.  But I get a strong impression that there's just a lot more Commodore & Amiga equipment in Europe that people want to sell, which drives prices down.  I agree with the idea of selling off the individual pieces, too.  Although you may want to sell the games in lots of 5 or so or else eBay will take all your money in fees anyway.

bottomline : you can sell them, but you'll get almost nothing. And in a few years, you'll regret what you've done when you want to run monkey island one more time. If you're really sure about selling, splitting the items gets the more money, but it'll take more time. All in one go will be a quick, painless death. Also, you can try amibench. It's not as popular as ebay, but there're no fees, and I guess most of the users are based in UK.

Don't throw anything in the bin please.
What is the total weight for the package ?
(I live in France, where the house are big too, but quite full too   ).
It would really be cheaper if you can take the ferry as a pedestrian (some days it's just £5 for go and back) and go to the post office   :-D

Dunno - the last 500+ (without mem upgrade and not as good a package) went for £36, and some fool's just bought a games collection, sim to mine but none of them original for over £50. I've been keeping an eye for the last few months and it's usually around the £30 mark, which I think is sort of decent to keep it being used. Aware I'm not going to make enough to build a house extension!  ;-)
