Video: BBC Micro Live Extra - AMIGA
« on: June 29, 2006, 08:15:12 AM »
The highlight of this episode is Fred Harris looking at the graphics/sound capabilities of the (then cutting edge) Commodore Amiga computer (1985).

You can get this episode via bit torrent. After registering at uknova, the torrent file can be downloaded from here: removed because of complaints below.
Amiga A1200. Blizzard 1230 Mk IV 50MHz with FPU. 16MB RAM. Indivision AGA Mk II. 4GB IDE CF.

Cool! Any idea what format it's in? Is it a DivX AVI or something different?

Thanks for the info.

I've just forwarded this on to a friend in the UK and he says that the signup page doesn't work - and he's heard that they are no longer accepting new users... Do you know if this is the case?

Oh. Crap. I didn't know they stopped accepting new users. I can upload it to some webspace if anyone knows of a free place.

I wouldn't take it as gospel... he may be wrong...

How big is the file?

Unfortunately, web space is expensive and ADSL is capped at silly low rates in New Zealand, otherwise I'd help!

Excuse me ruining the party, but a.org posting guidelines kind of prohibit posting links to warez or posting about illegal activities.

Or has BBC sanctioned this redistribution?

If not, I suggest you edit out the links or any info regarding this video.

Err... oops! Sorry...

It's a real shame the BBC doesn't release a Micro Live DVD... I guess the target market is waaaay too small to make it commercially viable, but I'd certainly buy it!

As someone who pays for the BBC, I have no problem with this being posted on a site.

Why do you have a problem with it?

Silly things like Copyright Laws apperantly have to be observed even if you dislike them.

I'd rather be devoid of a link or two then getting to see Amiga.org as the potential target of litigation.

Well that's your prerogative. Personally I think it doesn't justify piracy.

Well I can think of couple of reasons:
- The a.org posting guidelines forbid it.
- A.org is hosted in the US, and DMCA is really {bleep}y law.
- It's illegal in most european countries aswell.

Don't get me wrong, I'd really love to have more laxed copyright law, rather than this DMCA/EUCD stupidity we have now. Anyway, whatever you do outside of a.org context is your own business.

Hi, my name is Chris Brown. I wonder if maybe you can help me? My father appeard on Micro Live (I think maybe '86, but not sure) He was responsible for the creation of a flight sim Dr Soft's "PHANTOM COMBAT SIMULATOR". This footage of my father (Nick Brown) is the only in existence. I can't begin to explain what it would mean to me to have a copy of that footage, so if you know of anyone who might have it I'll very much be in your debt!!!      Warm regards, Chris Brown

....
sigh
This is not worse than someone posting a link to a youtube video. Like others pointed out, there is no dvd of this or any others ways of watching it. Would be a shame to see the video just vanish from the face of earth.
I dont see why he should not be able to mention the name and info of video, as long as he edits out the direct links.

It's a shame there is no legal way to obtain the specific material but this is no excuse.

I agree it would be a shame if the video would vanish.

Info was referring to the uknova site info and related information about piracy, not to info of the content itself.
