What brand is a good pcmcia card for an Amiga 600
« on: June 23, 2006, 02:42:57 AM »
I want to pick up a card for a new Amiga 600

Does the amiga have basic driver support or do I need to get something specific.

you can't just go and use any pcmcia card with an amiga. Amiga's pcmcia port is 16 bit, and most pcmcia cards you'll find in the market and 32 bit these days. If you want to buy a RAM card, you need to make sure it's SRAM, the brand doesn't matter (you don't have much choices anyway). If you want a network card, check the driver support list (probably found in aminet), I guess prism chipsets are supported (and cnet ?).
I believe in mt. Fuji

SRAM cards are accepted as RAM, you can use Compactflash to PCMCIA adapter too (works like removable drive).

If you are lookin for ethernet card, try 3com 589C/D or Netgear FA411.
too lazy to use shift key properly...

As mentioned some of the 3Com 589 cards work really well, thanks to Neil Cafferkey's excellent driver on Aminet. Do a search for PCMCIA. 3Com cards should be easy to pick up on Ebay or whatever, but check the docs and choose one of the supported variants.

A large proportion of 10Mbit PCMCIA ethernet cards do work (with CNET.device) but if it says 100mbit then it will not work. There are no (?) 16-bit 100mbit ethernet cards.

yes there are 10/100 16 bit cards... whether you actually get 100Mbit is something else altogether.

I don't think these are any amiga compatible drivers for these anyway
