Which one to leave ? A1200 PPC 233/60 or A4000/60 ??
« on: May 04, 2003, 09:34:59 PM »
I'm thinking about making one Amiga leave my room. Which one ?? The towered A1200 with Zorro4, Powerflyer Z4, Bliizard PPC 233/060 with Bvision on one hand. Or the A4000 desktop with 060 card and a PicassoIV, Vlab, Vlab Motion and Toccata ??? Any bright comments about pêople with experience ?? The PPC wins when speed is concerned, but the Zorro3 busboard makes up for the loss of speed for the A4000, or doesn't it ??

I say keep both... or better yet do like me and keep all nine (A500, 4*1200, A2000, A3000, 2*A4000). :-o

:-? You’re in a real pickle, dude.  Do you just need the space?  You could move one to another room and network them, as I’ve done.

:-? Or are you planning to sell one? In that situation, I would examine my plans for the future.  What do you plan to do with your remaining ‘miggy?  Is there any hardware-dependant software that you can’t live without?

;-) You might also want to consider that Amiga OS 4 won’t run on classic Amigas without a PPC card, although the Blizzard version is a ways off, yet.

I would keep both...and I still would have my Amigas had I not been forced by circumstance to sell mine.. if you do sell one get whats right for it... but just to throw my opinon in as to wich one you might want to keep...

A4000 is certinly more expandable...and if indeed amigas do become collectors items the 4000 is likely to be the most prized (aside from the 3000's with the DSP wich are very rare)... I'd keep the 4000...

I would keep the PPC machine. The 4000 is nicer but you will be future proofed with the PPC.. You;ll be able to run MorphOS and AmigaOS4 when they both come out for BPPC..

;-) Future resistant, sir, future resistant!  No computer is future proof, nor will one ever be.

I would also say to keep both...personally, if
you had to get rid of one, I would give
the slight nod to keeping the 4000, but
towered 1200's can be just as cool.

@mips_proc

Soft Hut had a few of those DSP 3000's for sale
a while ago. Thinking back, I wish I could have
jumped on one of them for collector's value...
but they were just too expensive.

I would also keep both. You have 2 very nice systems there. Selling one will make you regret it in the end.

I also sold several parts years ago when I installed a BlizzardPPC in an Elbox tower.

I sold a PCMCIA CD-ROM and a Blizzard 1230-IV with copro and SCSI-kit.
Recently I bought it all back second hand for a second Amiga 1200. I really wish I never sold it in the first place. Huge mistake!

Keep both, one day someone will offer you good money for one or the other and you will kick yourself for not keeping it.

Or you could get rid of both and buy a Pegasos or an A1?  :-)

No, on second thoughts, heed Pauls advice (bloody hell) and hang on to `em both.

Maybe you could put one in storage?

Rudei : sorry, no Pegasos or A1 for me yet. I love AGA too much and those UAE warez are not really fully AGA compatible.
I was also planning (a year ago meanwhile) to have the A4000 moved to a tower case and use that Micronik 4000 busboard that came with the A4000. That way I can use more than just 4 cards ... but to use PPC I should install a Mediator 4000 and wait for the Shark PPC or won't that be avaliable ??

Getting rid of Amigas? Are you NUTS?! I have my A4k, an A2k, and two DOA A1200 motherboards on the way (with the intention of resurrecting them)... I'm also borrowing a friend's A500 at the moment so I have parts (power supply, FDD, etc) to work on the A1200 boards with... And I may end up getting to keep that as well.

Yeeaaah buddy!

A4000D, A3640 OC-36.3MHz, custom tower, Mediator A4000D. Diamond Banshee 16M, Indivision AGA 4000, GVP HC+8.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

Just tell your significant other that your Amigas lets you keep in touch with your creative abilities and that they bring out your inner child, which will help you become a great father one day. How could she possibly resist that? :-)
