Networking with Mediator
« on: June 20, 2006, 08:13:24 PM »
Hello,

I've been having a few teething problems setting up my A1200 with the Mediator and Network card (it is the compatible Realtek RTL 813..somethingorother).

Using the FastEthernet device with the MMCD I seem to be getting no-where as Genesis reports that the device cannot be found.

I've been trying to get all the newest versions of the devices etc. from Elbox, but haven't heard back from them yet. Is there anywhere I can download all the newest versions from?

Aside from that is there anything else I can try to get the Amiga to see the card? - It does show up in the system info I think...

Cheers,

Brunty

Have you got a Voodoo installed? Otherwise you are limited to 10 MBit ethernet cards.

Latest drivers are only available from ELBOX.

Hi, welcome to Amiga.org

Check that the FastEthernet.device is in the SYS:Devs/Networks drawer (ie. go into a Shell and type: list sys:devs/Networks/FastEthernet.device )

Also bear in mind that the 'F' and the 'E' of FastEthernet.device in the SANA network driver path entry must be capitalised as it is case sensitive.  Genesis will not recognise the driver if it is entered as fastethernet.device instead of FastEthernet.device

Hi,

thanks. Yes I have a voodoo and the FastEthernet.device is in Devs:Networks as per the installation.

Strange. Are you sure your ethernet card is fully working? Maybe give Miami a try, Genesis has problems if using DHCP.

What does PCIINFO say?  Are all the cards shown?  What kind of Mediator do you have?
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hmm.

Was just booting back up and it seems I have a checksum error coming up while setpatch is running...

The Mediator is the first one that came out for the 1200, I see that there are a few types now-a-days!

Brunty

edit: actually it seems that the whole disk is now a checksum error!

Check that all the connections in your molex connections are secure - I've had an earth wire pushed out before which has caused similar problems.

Also make sure that your motherboard/mediator is not stresses, as this can cause weird problems.

OK, seems I have a dodgy IDE cable.

pciinfo shows both voodoo and realtek card as being there etc.

If you have the first Mediator, it's likely that you need the mach chip upgrade.  A while back, Elbox distributed a pair of new chips with the MMCD upgrade.  I don't see it on their website anymore and don't know how to check to see if you have the later mach chips.

Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

OK, I've received all the most recent updates from Elbox, so hoping these make a difference, I noticed that for something to work properly (can't remember what it was  ) there needed to be certian version numbers for various devices...

But, the checksum errors are back. It doesn't seem to be the IDE cable after all, just checking the HD and then the power flyer.

Wow. Done it

It seems that I needed the new drivers etc.

I can now ping the network, just need to find out how I can get the DNS servers set up. it doesn't respond to my current one...

Brunty

(still no idea about the intermittant checksum errors, if I boot from floppy and then reset my settings - voodoo mainly - it's ok again for a while. It does seem to suffer from intermittant crashes (freezing) every now and then, but it always did)

Are you using a 040 or 060 based system? Can act wierd if the needed libraries aren't installed.

It's an 060 66.

All online now and browsing amiga.org no problems. Just
can`t reply to a post!

I put the crashes and freezing down to hardware rather than software, but if it could be as simple as librarys I'd be over the moon!

So what is the most modern browser we have? I've tried AWeb that comes with OS3.9 and it seems fine, but keeps asking to accept cookies which is a right pain in the...

My old favorite was Voyager, but I need to route out my key and get the newest version 3.something.

I read that mozilla/firefox was meant to be getting ported, anything happen about that?

Cheers for all help so far!
