any Amiga equivalent to Command and Conquer?
« on: June 15, 2006, 05:09:13 AM »
Hey guys, I just found a copy of Command and Conquer by Westwood for $1 and found it's a decent game, although without sound on my crappy old IBM Thinkpad, which makes knowing the missions a little difficult.

Are there any equivalent real/time strategy games on the Amiga side?

Or is there any way to run this on my A1200 with 040/50 accelerator?

Thanks.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

Napalm

Napalm, a game that has been eagerly awaited by the Amiga hordes, and whys this you may ask? Well, it has been hyped in quite a big way by clickBOOM and it is the first real Command & Conquer type game thats actually been released on the Amiga, the question is though, is it just another boring Command & Conquer clone and does it live upto the hype?

Machine:    AGA/GFX Card
Workbench:   1.3+
RAM:           16 Mb
Hard-disk       Install   Yes
Disks:           1 CD
Graphics:-   Simply excellent, look great in the High-Res mode although they seem a little big for Low-Res.
Sound:-   Some great speech, CDDA music and spot effects.
Playability:-   Its quality stuff, once you start you'll find it damn difficult to stop.
Lastability:-   15 missions for each team should keep you going for a long time.
OVERALL:-
The best Real-Time strategy game I have ever played, 'nuff said.

This must be the best Amiga Command and Conquer clone ever made. Though very bad that it didnt get any TCPIP update though :( But ClickBOOM made their own death. Huge dramatic stuff towards coders and more.

Well, Napalm is infact a great game that deserved better than ClickBOOM,.. this is a masterpiece of a game that will be in shadows of time if no one rescue it as its really a great Amiga game! It really is fantastic! Great graphics, sound, music and more!

Viva Amiga.. and I hope Napalm to come back someday. But thats just a dream though,...

Napalm and Earth 2140 are pretty much your only options. A possible alternative might be Dune II, which Westwood developed before C&C.

Don`t forget Exodus. Runs very well on a 040 with the RTG-patch.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

The irony is Westwood never made C&C for the modern PC.

Red Alert is silly and Tiberian Sun and Generals both blow.

Since C&C wont run on anything post NT/2000 I have to
keep a WinME just to play it occasionally.

But it is my favorite game of all time...

Sorry for going off topic. :)

On OS4 you can use the Command & Conquer engine freeCNC for playing C&C:
http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=game/strategy/freecnc.lha
AmigaOne XE G3 750FX 800Mhz/2GB + Radeon 9000PRO 128MB +AmigaOS4.1
A4000T CyberstormPPC 604e-200Mhz/060/128MB+CybervisionPPC 8MB+OS4
and anymore other Amigas...

Wasn't Z supposed to be ported to the Amiga? And if I recall correctly there were murmers of Invasion to be ported?

It's a shame that C&C ended up on the PC, it was a critical time when it came out and I am sure that it's partly responsible for the exodus of game players from Amiga to PC.

Try dosbox or vdmsound. Those work near perfect.
And really, GET RID of WinME

C&C PC version was okay...but I always preferred Dune II, Westwoods very first RTS.  More basic but I still play it on WinUAE today.

WinXP fixed the gaming backwards compatibility problem that 2000 had.

In theory that is. Hardly any of my games work under XP without dosbox or vdmsound
