« on: June 13, 2006, 11:12:16 AM »
The latest version of Google Earth has been released in beta form.

The intresting thing is that it comes in a linux flavour...

(13mb, in the downloads section)

BTW, the windows version is stable and worth downloading.

Googal Earth is very worth having. For anyone who has not tried it you can zoom into almost any part of the earth and see your home town or look at other places in 3D and stunning sattalite detail.
A great learning tool for kids and just plain cool for anyone.

Heh! Google Earth is fantastic, unless you live in low-res New Zealand!  :bigcry:

The Microsoft equivalent is pretty good too, with different areas of the UK at least in as good or better resolution than Google Earth. Again, New Zealand is in low-res 320 x 256 x 16 colours!

EDIT: Is the Linux version truely native or a Wine/Winelib conversion?

Hi,

The Linux version works well! Runs very smoothly (on Ubuntu at least) and picked up my locale / location preferences from the OS, homing in on Nelson, NZ instead of just defaulting to the US!

The new interface is nice too.

AND... New Zealand (at least my area) is no longer in low-res, I can actually see individual houses now!!! Yippeeee!  :-D

Hehe! But it's warmer to view it that way! It's a bit chilly here at the moment, but that creates lots of opportunities to take nice snowy mountain pictures!

The Mac OS X port seems to run nicely too.  Needs a fast CPU though.

When should we expect an Amiga port? ;)
