And vice versa. IIRC it is on by default but should be off in this case.

@Boot_WB: in my setup i have set the speed at 1x but the prog writes by it's self from 6x to 8x...

I thing the biggest problem is the modern hardware (DVD/CDRW).
The modern combo drives have minimum write speed the 8x.
That is the problem I thing. The program try to write at this high speed for amiga specs and the buffer goes to empty very fast. Anybody writes at 8x with success to amiga1200 ide with makeCD? Anybody uses modern combo DVD/CDRW and writes CDs with lower speeds than 6x-8x with makeCD? If anybody make it please  let me know that.

i'm writing ok at 8x with a 52x32x52 cdrw. i'm using scsi.device and not atapi.device as i did in the past because i noticed that with scsi.device the cd can write at faster speeds. the cdrw is connected as slave at the standard ide port of a1200

"I use an idefix buffered adapter with a master 2.5 HD (8GB) and a master 3.5 combo DVD/CDRW BTC"

Have you already successfully used that BTC combo with other Amiga system or its new?

No I haven't successfully used that BTC to the past, is new to my system (I bought it from vesalia with an external cdrom case). To the past I used makecd with old drives like "Acer 2x CDR", Sony 8x CDRW" and "Toshiba 4x CDRW".

I thing the 060 is enough for 8x writing but my 040 isn't.
Plus my 8GB 2.5 hd is only 4.200rpm.

i think the problem is the BTC unit, unfortunately.

AFAIK BTC is a OEM producer and that devices rely very much on the power of the CPU where is working on. (see PCs)

My Teac (and probably your previous CD writers in some way) have 8 MB of data buffer/write proof and rely very well even with my old 040 CPU card (writing on the fly as well)

btw.... have you updated your "makecdromfs.module" recently?

i don't know about cpu speed problems but i have to say that from the moment that i start to use scsi.device i'm writing cds on the fly and not cd images as i do it in the past with atapi.device. as for the hard disk, sysinfo reports 1.8mb/sec transfer rate on my hard disks (the old and the new i use now)

The BTC is the problem is my opinion. What to you mean "makecdromfs.module"?
