Pegasos replacement for my MicroA1
« on: June 04, 2006, 10:30:59 PM »
Since my MicroA1 died after just 3 days I've been searching for a replacement to be used for Amiga development and I'm now considering to buy a Pegasos G3 600MHz.

I want to start porting my 3D FPS game NoLife using TinyGL and wonder if this pegasos with a 7500 will work with 3D stuff?

The plan is to use GCC with TinyGL which should make the game easily portable to AmigaOS4 when/if I can get my hands on some new OS4 compatible hw.

Surely you can get your A1 replaced under the warranty terms?

"I bought it used on a web auction."

Thanks to the wonderful trio they (might) have lost an OS4 user/potential developer to the competition.

Well done Amiga Inc and Hyperion, you bunch of muppets really do know how to run a buisness :roll:

So?

A statutory warranty is still valid on second hand goods.

@stianstr

It will work quite well, A Radeon7500 is the best card you can use in a Peg1. TinyGL is enough to run Quake3 and Blender so I guess it will be enough for your game :-)

Since when Hyperion has to honour the warranty terms which belongs to Eyetech? AFAIK there are two different companies with differents products and targets. As usual Hyperion gets flamed freely.

Anyway, Pegasos is a good machine and the only amigaish thing you can buy ATM. ( The support from Genesi, the hardware manufacturer and nothign to do with software,to the final user its damn fine good, in all ways )

As said, Radeon 7500 is the best for Peg1 and Radeon 9000 or 9100 is probably the best for Peg2.

@FrankBrana

The problem doesn't seem to be warranty (which has allways been non-existant for A1 anyways) but the lack of available hardware that could run OS4 which "forces" stianstr to go for the competition ....
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Flamed because they are also part of the problem rather than the solution. They was happy to play monopoly with Ainc and Eyetech but now that it has backfired, everyone should praise and defend them?

It seems people (conveniently?) forgets about the trio`s (Amiga Inc,Eyetech,Hyperion) self made monopoly madness, all three are responsible for what has become of the Amigaone and OS4. No amount of aw.netism will rectify that.

Elbox and their RDB killer code deserves more respect than the trio.

When it comes to Hyperion I think they have done a great job with OS4. It feels more modern than ever and I enjoyed it the 3 days my MicroA1 worked. The only missing software needed is a descent web browser. The few available is just rubish.

If they didn't have a monopoly when it came to the OS we would have several versions of the AmigaOS and what good would that do us if 20% used that OS and 20% a different OS and so on.

When it comes to HW I don't care about the warranty. I just wish there was available HW for me to buy when it breaks down.

How is hardware availability on new pegasos systems btw?

That just changed with the MorphOS 3D update 2. Pegasos 1 can now use the same cards as Pegasos 2.

What has hyperion to do with his hardware dying?? I can understand why you blame amiga inc and eyetech for us having no hardware, but why hyperion? They are only porting the OS and cannot legally port it to another platform without getting permission from the {bleep}es at amiga inc.
